Scotland’s Biggest Bonfire Night Event Cancelled for 2025

Scotland’s Biggest Bonfire Night Event Cancelled for 2025

Bonfire Night in Scotland is losing one of its biggest fixtures this year. Less than three weeks before the event was due to take place, organisers have confirmed that Fawkes Festival in Edinburgh is officially cancelled for 2025 — news that’s left many ticket holders disappointed.

The festival, widely promoted as “Scotland’s largest bonfire and fireworks event,” was set to be held at the Royal Highland Centre in Ingliston on 2nd November 2025, drawing crowds of up to 15,000 in previous years.

Organisers Confirm “Planned Pause”

In a statement released on 14th October, organisers described the cancellation as a “planned pause” rather than a permanent closure. They explained that the decision was part of a longer-term strategy to “refresh” the event for the future, citing rising delivery costs as a key factor.

The statement read: “Fawkes Festival is taking a planned pause in 2025 as part of a long-term strategy to further develop and enhance the event experience. While interest and support have been incredibly strong, the rising costs of delivering the scale, creativity, and experience we’ve envisioned have made it challenging to bring the event to life in the way it truly deserves.

“We remain fully committed to the high standards our audience expects and rather than compromise on quality, we’re taking this time to pause, reassess, and reimagine how we bring Fawkes Festival to life —at a level that’s both extraordinary and accessible.”

The organisers also confirmed that all existing ticket holders will receive an automatic refund within five to ten working days.

A Major Fixture In Scotland’s Bonfire Calendar

Fawkes Festival has grown rapidly in recent years, pulling in huge crowds from across Scotland and beyond. Last year’s event drew around 15,000 attendees, with the 2025 line-up promising live music from acts like Ibiza In Symphony, Bombskare, Ben Walker, and Cal and Ally.

It wasn’t just about the fireworks either — the festival had planned funfair rides, laser shows, and street food vendors to round out the night. With the cancellation so close to Bonfire Night, it’s no surprise that social media has been awash with disappointed reactions.

One frustrated customer wrote: “Poor planning and customer service. If it’s poor uptake and not cost efficient, say that rather than what you’ve done here!” Another added: “Wtf! No explanation?”

Looking Ahead To 2026

The festival team says this is a “pause, not a goodbye.” Work has already started on plans for the 2026 event, which they’ve promised will be “even more ambitious, exciting, and unforgettable.”

For anyone who was planning to attend this year, this news may come as a blow — but Bonfire Night in Scotland certainly isn’t short of other options. From coastal fireworks displays to big city events, there’s still plenty going on up and down the country.
