Yanshui Fireworks Festival

The Yanshui District is the name of a small town in Tainan City in the south of Taiwan, which is world famous for its crazy fireworks festival.

The yearly event commemorates a cholera epidemic more than a 100 years ago, the firework festival symbolises the exorcism of demons associated with the plague. The festival, known as Feng Pao, is celebrated on the 15th day after the beginning of the Lunar New Year, also called Shang Yuan Festival.
