Two Deaf Dogs Steal the Show at Their First Firework Display

Fireworks can divide opinion when it comes to dogs. Some bark, some hide, some shake like a leaf… and then there are Cole and Cece, two deaf rescue pups who’ve just discovered the joy of a good old firework display.

Owner Chris Hannah (@deafcole on TikTok) recently shared a video of his dogs’ first experience watching fireworks — and the internet can’t get enough. At the time of writing, the clip has racked up over 630,000 views and 120,000 likes, and it’s not hard to see why.

Cole, an eight-year-old bundle of laid-back charm, spent the whole thing… napping. Meanwhile, four-year-old Cece was bouncing around, barking excitedly at the sky, absolutely transfixed by the lights and the vibrations.

"I knew Cole would probably nap because they were past his bedtime," Chris said. "Cece is very sensitive to vibrations, so I had a feeling she would react the complete opposite to her brother. Her barks of excitement were so adorable."

TikTok commenters were quick to fall in love with the contrast:

  • “I strive to be like Cole. Calm in every situation.”

  • “Cole is the level of unbothered I want to be in life.”

  • “Not his fault the fireworks were scheduled during his bedtime.”

A Lesson in Fireworks and Dogs

Cole and Cece have a unique advantage: being deaf means the loud bangs don’t faze them. But most dogs can hear the full kaboom, and for them, fireworks can be a stressful experience.

That doesn’t mean your pooch has to miss out on the fun — with a bit of planning, both you and your four-legged mate can enjoy the evening.

Tips for Helping Dogs Enjoy Fireworks Safely

  • Plan a quiet zone: Create a comfy den indoors where your dog can retreat if they get overwhelmed.

  • Keep curtains closed: It reduces flashes that might unsettle them.

  • Background noise helps: TV or music can mask some of the bangs.

  • Stay calm: Dogs feed off our energy — if you’re chill, it reassures them.

  • Try quiet fireworks: Not all fireworks are big boomers. We stock a wide range of low-noise fireworks that swap out the bangs for colourful effects, crackles, and fizz — perfect for keeping the peace with pets and neighbours alike.

Why We Love Stories Like This

Chris’s video is more than just a viral hit — it’s a reminder that fireworks are about joy, togetherness, and shared experiences. Whether you’re as excitable as Cece or as horizontal as Cole, there’s something magical about watching the sky light up.
