YORK BALLOON FESTIVAL & FIREWORKS

YORK BALLOON FESTIVAL & FIREWORKS

WHAT: YORK BALLOON FESTIVAL & FIREWORKS
WHY: BALLOON FESTIVAL & FIREWORKS
WHERE: YORK RACECOURSE, YORK
WHEN: FRIDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER TO SUNDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER 2019
COST: FREE TO ATTEND

The York balloon festival and fireworks return to the racecourse in September, and the festival sponsors and organisers have promised that this year it will be bigger and better than ever before.

Witness the spectacle of over 50 hot air balloons taking to the skies twice a day (once at sunrise and then again in the afternoon). Balloons with pilots and dedicated grounds teams travel from all over the UK to Yorkshire for the event. One of the main spectacles of the festival-style event is the night glow performance, make sure you have your camera as this provides some perfect photo opportunities and is not something to be missed. The dark skies glow with light as the balloons tethered together put on a light performance accompanied to music.

The event isn’t all about the balloons, there is a full three-day fiesta planned with children’s entertainment, live music, tribute acts and food, and drinks stalls. For the thrill-seekers, you can visit the funfair on the grounds with rides never seen before in York and boasting to be the biggest to be held on the race ground.

Whichever day you decide to visit we recommend if you’re a pyro lover like us here at Epic that you pencil in the Saturday evening. This is when the grand finale begins as the spectacular fireworks and laser show begins at around 9:50pm. Watch as the skies light up in a different way to the night-time glow as the skies are filled with light, colour, and effects.

The event is completely free but if you are wanting to travel and park at the racecourse where there is a charge, it is advised to get there early as there are limited places available. For alternatives, there is a shuttle bus from York train station and a park and ride available from Askham.
