World’s Biggest Catherine Wheel Is Fired In Mqabba

Mqabba celebrated in style yesterday (Saturday 18th June 2011) as firework enthusiasts from Our Lady of the Lilies fireworks factory lit the world's biggest Catherine Wheel and entered the Guinness World Records.

Suffarelli were let off and there was huge applause from thousands of onlookers as the giant, fiery wheel started to rotate. Its dimensions are well above the 85ft diameter of the previous world record.

World’s Biggest Catherine Wheel Is Fired In Mqabba

The success ended a year of frustration after last year's record-breaking attempt had to be cancelled due to the strong winds damaging the wheel.
