Weymouth Summer Fireworks 2025 – Free Weekly Displays by the Sea
Looking for a seaside evening with a bit more spark? Head down to Weymouth this summer, where Monday nights are about to get a lot more explosive.
Every Monday night from 28th July to 25th August, the skies over the bay will be lit up with a free firework display at 9:30pm sharp.
Whether you're on your hols with the kids or you're a local after some old-school summer charm, Weymouth’s weekly fireworks are the perfect excuse to stretch your weekend out just a little longer.
When and Where It’s Happening
Weymouth’s firework displays are held on the seafront every Monday night, for five weeks running. Each show is launched from the bay itself, making it easy to catch the action from just about anywhere along the Esplanade.
Key dates for your diary:
-
Monday 28th July 2025
-
Monday 4th August 2025
-
Monday 11th August 2025
-
Monday 18th August 2025
-
Monday 25th August 2025
All displays start at 9:30pm, so don’t be caught mid-doughnut when the first rocket goes up.
And if loud bangs aren’t your thing (or you're out with little ones), take note: the 28th July and 11th August displays will feature lower-noise fireworks — same sparkle, less rumble.
What to Expect from a Firework Night in Weymouth
There’s a reason Weymouth’s firework nights pull in the crowds year after year — and it’s not just the pyrotechnics. It’s the whole atmosphere: bucket-and-spade vibes by day, and an all-out seaside show by night.
The fun starts well before sundown. Head down early and make a day of it:
-
Hit the beach – Weymouth's sandy stretch is one of the best on the south coast
-
Let the kids run wild at Alexandra Gardens, full of fairground rides, amusements and arcades
-
Tuck into proper British seaside grub – battered cod, fresh doughnuts, candy floss, and chips that need three sachets of vinegar minimum
-
Wander the historic harbour, home to bobbing boats, bustling pubs and all the coastal charm you can shake a seagull at
-
Climb up to Nothe Fort before the sun sets – it’s a top spot for panoramic views (and some of the best photos of the fireworks in action)
As the light starts to fade, you’ll notice the crowd shifting toward the railings. Blankets come out, camera tripods appear, and a hush falls just before 9:30pm — then it's all whistles, whooshes and that collective “ooooh” you only get at a proper firework display.
Why the Fireworks Matter to Weymouth
This isn’t just a pretty end to your Monday. These displays are part of a proud summer tradition that Weymouth nearly lost for good.
A few years ago, budget cuts nearly blew the whole thing out of the water. But thanks to the support of the new local authority and some determined community spirit, the summer firework shows are back, better, and more popular than ever.
Weymouth doesn’t just do fireworks for fun — it does them because they bring people together, boost local businesses, and add a bit of magic to those long summer nights.
Who It’s For
Short answer: just about everyone.
-
Families? Absolutely. It’s free, there’s space for buggies, and the early start time means the little ones won’t fall asleep before the finale.
-
Couples? Big yes. A seaside date with a sunset and a fireworks finale? Come on.
-
Visitors on holiday? Sorted. Add a Monday night sparkle to your stay and send the weekend out with a literal bang.
-
Locals? You’ve no excuse. Stick it in the calendar and get yourself down there.
Planning Your Visit
Weymouth’s town centre and Esplanade are well-equipped to handle the crowds, but it’s worth arriving early if you want a prime spot near the seafront. There’s plenty of parking nearby (though it fills up quickly), and the train station is just a short walk from the action.
If you’re staying overnight, book early – Monday display nights often get busy, especially mid-August when summer’s in full swing.
