Washington DC 4th July at National Mall

WHAT: Independence Day Fireworks
WHERE: Washington Monument, Washington DC
WHEN: The 4th of July
WHAT TIME: 9:15pm

BEST VIEWS: See below

What better place to celebrate the 4th of July than America’s capital. The patriotic view of the National Mall and the U.S. Capitol creates the most patriotic of scenes for Independence Day.

A day long event starts with a parade along Constitution Avenue and ends in spectacular style with the obligatory patriotic fireworks with red, white and blue stars filling the sky above the Washington Monument.

This is expected to be one of the biggest events in the USA’s capital this year and as such it will get busy early. The best way to ensure you get a good spot for the fireworks is to turn up early and enjoy the whole day’s events on America’s birthday. It is a family friendly occasion as all 4th July events should be, so bring the kids, bring sunscreen and prepare for a fantastic day followed by sensational fireworks.

The National Mall opens at 10am and everyone will have to enter through security checkpoints. Located at the following sites:

  • West entrance, or George Washington Memorial Parkway side of Memorial Bridge
  • Constitution Avenue and 23rd Street
  • Constitution Avenue and 17th Street
  • Constitution Avenue between 14th and 15th streets
  • Independence Avenue and 14th Street
  • Westside of 14th Street, at Jefferson Drive, SW
  • Westside of 14th Street, at Madison Drive, SW
  • Maine Avenue and Raoul Wallenberg Place, (Le. formerly 15th Street)

Security checks will search through backpacks, bags, coolers and any other handheld luggage and through individuals’ persons as well. Alcohol and fireworks are strictly prohibited for everyone’s safety and these items will be confiscated if found, so leave the beer and bangers at home people.

Everyone is being encouraged to take public transport to and from the celebrations. This will make getting around much easier for everyone, and less traffic means getting home after the fireworks will be much less headache, leaving you free to enjoy 4th July. The simplest way to reach the National Mall will be by the Metro. There are loads of nearby stations which will have regular departures, keeping the flow of happy revellers moving to and from the amazing fireworks display.
