Wareham Wednesdays 2025: Dorset Riverside Fireworks & Family Fun

Wareham Wednesdays 2025: Dorset Riverside Fireworks & Family Fun

If you’re looking for a midweek summer treat that doesn’t involve another sticky soft play centre or questionable BBQ, get yourself to Wareham Quay this August.

Every Wednesday evening from 6pm to 10pm, the Quay transforms into a buzzing riverside festival — full of live music, street food, entertainment for all ages and, most importantly, a proper firework finale at 9:45pm.

Whether you’re a local, holidaymaker, or just someone who enjoys seeing superheroes pushing wheelbarrows after a pint, Wareham Wednesdays has you covered. And yes, it’s as brilliantly bonkers as it sounds.

What’s On – Dates and Themes

Wednesday 6th August – VE/VJ Day 80th Anniversary

We're kicking things off with a throwback to 1945. Expect 40s tunes, wartime glamour, military vehicles, and more red lipstick and victory rolls than you can shake a ration book at.

  • Jamie Jambo kicks things off at 6:30pm with his magic show (it’s not your usual pull-a-rabbit-out routine either)

  • The Silhouette Show bring the vintage vibes at 7:15pm

  • Emma Hardy Band follows up at 8:30pm

  • And then the real action: Fireworks at 9:45pm

Dress code? Swing dresses, braces and big band energy encouraged.

Wednesday 13th August – Superhero Night & The Wheelbarrow Race

Grab your cape and get your wheelbarrow game face on. This night is all about dressing up and dashing about in the name of glory. The crowd favourite fancy dress Wheelbarrow Race is back and sillier than ever.

  • Wheelbarrow race at 7pm (£5 per barrow)

  • Kids’ superhero fancy dress competition straight after

  • Britpop Boys tribute band at 8:30pm

  • Fireworks at 9:45pm – and yes, even Iron Man stops to watch

Expect chaos. The good kind.

Wednesday 20th August – Pirate Invasion

The pirates are coming back, and this year, they’re wetter, louder, and more misbehaved than ever. Expect water cannons, musket-style water guns, and utter nautical nonsense.

  • Pirate skirmish kicks off around 7pm

  • The Muddlecombe Men will attempt to defend Wareham’s honour (and dry socks)

  • The Leggomen play live at 8:30pm

  • Boom time at 9:45pm with a full firework finale over the Quay

Bring your super soakers. You will get drenched.

Wednesday 27th August – Neon Night & Raft Race

We’re ending the season on a high – and a bit of a splash.

The Neon Night Raft Race returns, and it’s open to anyone mad enough to build a floating object and paddle it in public. Prizes for speed, style and sheer daftness.

  • Raft race at 7pm (£5 per raft)

  • Talent show winner performs at 7:15pm

  • Flash (a Queen tribute band) rocks the stage at 8:30pm

  • Fireworks at 9:45pm – because every neon raft deserves a Queen-worthy send off

Dress code: neon, glowing accessories, and anything that would’ve made sense in a 90s school disco.
