UK Team Wins the 2024 Celebration of Light in Vancouver

The boys may not have bought the Euros home but the United Kingdom's Team Pyrotex Fireworx has been crowned the winner of the 2024 Celebration of Light in Vancouver, and it's safe to say they lit up the competition!

This year's festival saw an incredible turnout, with over a million spectators flocking to English Bay to witness the spectacular displays. The UK team not only won the judges' competition but also snagged the coveted People's Choice award, proving they were the fan favourites too.

A Spectacular Show

The festival, which spanned three days, featured stunning performances from teams across the globe. Team Pyrotex Fireworx, hailing from near Birmingham, UK, closed the festival on July 27 with a show themed around Hollywood. Their display included famous movie soundtracks like "Shallow" from A Star is Born, "You're the One That I Want" from Grease, and opened with the iconic 20th Century Fox fanfare.

The UK team's performance was described as super-tight, with impeccable timing and show flow. Mark Kelsall, managing director and designer of Pyrotex Fireworx, crafted a soundtrack that included hits from Top Gun, The Greatest Showman, Star Wars, and Rocky, driving the pyromusical theme and making the display unforgettable.

The 2024 Competing Teams

The competition was fierce, with Team Macedo Pirotecnia from Malaysia and Team Pyro Tact from Portugal also delivering fantastic shows. Despite the tough competition, it was Team UK’s creativity and choreography that stole the show. As Kelly Guille, president of Archangel Fireworks Inc., noted, “Team Pyrotex from the UK presented a fireworks display that truly captured the imagination of the hundreds of thousands viewing the performance.”

A Night to Remember

The UK’s spectacular show started at 10 pm and ran for 25 minutes, following a day packed with pre-fireworks entertainment. Spectators enjoyed the Red Bull Air Show and a drone light show with about 200 drones. The drone show added an extra layer of excitement to the event, despite some technical issues on Portugal’s night.

A Celebrated History

Pyrotex Fireworx is no stranger to winning. Founded in 1999, the company entered its first competition in 2010 and has since won numerous awards worldwide. This victory at the Honda Celebration of Light marks the UK’s first win at the event since 1997. It was also the first time Pyrotex Fireworx had competed in this particular festival, making their triumph even more impressive.

The UK team’s victory at the 2024 Celebration of Light is a testament to their creativity, precision, and flair for putting on a show. With a perfect blend of music, timing, and stunning pyrotechnics, Team Pyrotex Fireworx truly deserved their win. If you missed this year's event, make sure to mark your calendar for next year’s festival – it’s an experience you won’t want to miss!
