TOP TIPS WHEN HANDLING FIREWORK SPARKLERS

Handling fireworks sparklers can be a fun and mesmerising part of celebrations, but it's crucial to prioritise safety. Here are numerous tips to ensure you and your loved ones can enjoy sparklers safely:

PURCHASE FROM REPUTABLE SOURCES: Only buy sparklers from licensed and reputable retailers to ensure they meet CE safety standards.

ADULT SUPERVISION: Children should only use sparklers under strict adult supervision. Ensure responsible adults are always present.

PROTECTIVE GLOVES: Consider wearing heat-resistant gloves when handling sparklers.

READ INSTRUCTIONS: Familiarise yourself with the manufacturer's instructions on the sparkler packaging.

OUTDOOR USE: Use sparklers outdoors in open areas, away from flammable materials, structures, and other people.

LIGHT ONE AT A TIME: Only light one sparkler at a time.

LIGHT WITH AN EXTENDABLE LIGHTER: Use a long, butane or barbecue lighter to ignite sparklers, keeping your hand at a safe distance.

WEAR SAFE CLOTHING: Avoid loose-fitting or flowing clothing, which can catch fire.

SAFETY GEAR: Consider wearing safety goggles to protect your eyes from sparks.

KEEP A BUCKET OF WATER: Have a bucket of water nearby to fully extinguish sparklers after use.

HOLD AT ARM'S LENGTH: Hold the sparkler at arm's length, away from your body and face and others.

LIGHT THE TIP: Always light the sparkler at the tip, not the middle or near the handle.

SUPERVISE CHILDREN CLOSELY: If children are using sparklers, hold the sparkler for them, and ensure they don't touch the hot end.

DON'T RUN WITH SPARKLERS: Never run while holding a lit sparkler.

DON'T PASS SPARKLERS: Avoid passing lit sparklers between individuals; instead, light each sparkler individually.

AVOID RELIGHTING: Don't attempt to relight a sparkler that has gone out; it may still be hot.

KEEP AWAY FROM FACE: Avoid waving sparklers near your face or anyone else's face.

NO ALCOHOL OR DRUGS: Do not use sparklers while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

MAINTAIN DISTANCE: Keep a safe distance from others who are using sparklers.

EDUCATE ON HOT ENDS: Teach children that the end of the sparkler stays hot after it goes out and not to touch it.

DON'T HOLD MULTIPLE SPARKLERS: Refrain from holding multiple sparklers at once.

AVOID WIND: Be cautious on windy days, as sparks can blow and ignite nearby materials.

EMERGENCY PLAN: Have a plan in case of accidents or burns, including access to a first-aid kit.

FOLLOW THE LAW: Adhere to the laws and regulations regarding the use of sparklers and fireworks.

PETS: Keep pets indoors or in a safe, secure area during fireworks activities.

EMERGENCY SERVICES: Know the emergency contact number and location in your area.

KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN UNDER 5: Sparklers are not suitable for children under five years old, as they can reach very very high temperatures.
