THE MALTA INTERNATIONAL FIREWORKS FESTIVAL
WHAT: WEEK LONG INTERNATIONAL FIREWORKS FESTIVAL
WHY: A BEAUTIFUL WEEK FILLED WITH COLOURFUL FIREWORKS
WHERE: VALETTA, MALTA
WHEN: MONDAY 24TH APRIL – SUNDAY 30TH APRIL
Every year in Valetta, Malta, their International Fireworks Festival dazzles crowds who travel from all over the world to see this spectacle.
This festival has been taking place since 2003, but Malta’s history with fireworks goes back much further than this. In fact, it is rumoured that Malta’s passion for fireworks began during the Order of the Knight’s of St. John. It is reported that the order would celebrate their most treasured occasions with special pyrotechnic displays.
Since The Order of St. John had such a large influence over the Maltese islands, (which is still recognisable today,) the tradition continued. Since, Malta has a huge fireworks culture, and is also a huge manufacturer of pyro. There are 35 fireworks factories on the Maltese Islands, and the detail and intricacies that go into manufacturing these fireworks is insane.
The craziest part of it all? Most of the workers who create this brilliant Pyro are volunteers! They do this due to the amount of passion they have for the industry.
Fireworks in Malta are like no other. The talent, creativity and innovation that goes into making this pyro is massive and ends up creating some of the most unique and unusual pyro ever seen.
The Tower of Light is an integral part of many Maltese fireworks shows, with stars that shoot out at lightning speeds to create patterns, shapes, and brilliant optical illusions, and making for a very interesting viewing experience.

The quality of the pyro is clear, but what means even more to viewers is the sheer passion that goes into these stunning displays. Workers dedicate hundreds of hours of time to create one show for the island and bring their ideas to life.
Display companies from all over the world visit some of the Maltese festivities for inspiration to try and bring fresh ideas to their own shows.
Overall, Malta undoubtedly provides some of the most unique and interesting pyro in the world, and the passion of the people who help bring these creations to life clearly shines through in their work.
