This weekend the much-loved community event of Sunsuper Riverfire (or Brisbane Fire Festival) will be taking place and lighting up the skies over Brisbane once more in the 22nd edition of the event.
Around half a million locals and visitors from all-over South-East Queensland will head to Southbank to celebrate the city as the largest arts and culture event ends.
Entertainment for the afternoon begins with the Svitzer tugboats ballet, a popular highlight from Sydney’s New Year’s Eve celebrations. Take your eyes to the skies for the 1st time this afternoon as the Australian Defence Force flypast putting on a stunning aerial display.
Due to the popularity of the event, is advised to arrive early as the main viewing point of South Bank will be fenced off and the gates will be closed once the area reaches full capacity. Restaurants and bars in the area offer exclusive events if you want to escape the crowds and have a more upmarket evening. Other vantage points are Kangaroo points cliffs, River Terrace at Kangaroo point, Victoria bridge, Captain Burke Park, Wilsons lookout, Howard Smith wharves and the city Riverwalk including the riverside centre and eagle street pier. At every one of the viewing points, there will be an abundance of food and drink on offer.
As the skies fall dark, the evening is set to end with a bang as an explosion of light, colour and sound as the electrifying pyrotechnic display is fired from multiple bridges, barges and city rooftops across the city. The fireworks are perfectly timed to the soundtrack celebrating the 1989, river stages birthday year.
If you can’t make it to the display, then you can tune into Triple m’s live broadcast or channel nine’s exclusive television coverage.
