Tens of thousands of visitors are expected to be on the shores of the North East Coastal beaches this weekend for the annual Sunderland Airshow. The event started in 1989 and is a fabulous free event for all the family.

This year’s show will be action-packed with a full programme of flying displays and demonstrations of the most incredible planes, helicopters, and specialists in the UK this weekend. In addition to the packed flying programme there will be music, family entertainment, live music and much more.

There are national and international representatives of military and civilian flying specialists including:

• RAF
• SWISS AIR FORCE
• NORWEIGAN AIR FORCE
• ROYAL NAVY
• BRITISH ARMY

There will be a HUGE array of aircraft and even specialist helicopters there for the weekend. In addition to the aircraft, there will be parachute display teams with the Army’s Tigers Parachute Display Team and the RAF Falcons Parachute display team.

There are also a couple of the UK’s best civilian aerobatic display teams taking to the skies over Roker – Fireflies and The Blades Aerobatics

The event will feature a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight in commemoration of the 75^th anniversary of the D-Day Landings.

The Friday night opening party will close with a spectacular firework display over the beach. However, a number of the flights later on, will also feature pyrotechnics which create a spectacular sight over the coastline.
