Southend Fireworks 2025 | Seafront Displays & Christmas Lights

The Southend fireworks are back for their 29th year, and the seafront is set to sparkle once again. From late September right through to mid-November, you’ll get seven weeks of free Saturday-night displays — capped off with a finale that ties in with the city’s Christmas lights switch-on.

Each show runs for around ten minutes, starting at 8pm sharp (except the grand finale, which starts at 7.30pm). The fireworks are launched from a barge out in the Estuary, east of Southend Pier, so you’ll get fantastic views from anywhere between Sea-Life Adventure and Genting Casino.

It’s the kind of Saturday night out where you don’t need to spend a penny if you don’t want to. But with Adventure Island open, Essex pubs buzzing, and chip shops on every corner, it’d be rude not to make an evening of it.

Southend Fireworks 2025 Dates

  • Saturday 27 September – 8pm

  • Saturday 4 October – 8pm

  • Saturday 11 October – 8pm

  • Saturday 18 October – 8pm

  • Saturday 25 October – 8pm

  • Saturday 1 November – 8pm

  • Saturday 8 November – 8pm

  • Saturday 15 November – 7.30pm (Christmas lights finale)

Where To Watch The Fireworks

Because the displays are set off from a barge in the Estuary, you’ll get an uninterrupted view from most of the seafront. Popular spots include:

  • Sea-Life Adventure (great if you want to mix in a family visit before the show).

  • Adventure Island (rides + fireworks = happy kids).

  • Genting Casino stretch, further west along the seafront, where crowds can be a little thinner.

Arrive early if you want the prime spots near the pier, as they fill up fast.

The Big Finale: Fireworks And Christmas Lights

The last show on Saturday 15th November is always a crowd-puller. Southend’s High Street hosts the city’s Christmas launch during the day, complete with a festive market and live entertainment. This year, the cast of Cinderella — with Rylan Clark leading the switch-on alongside mayor Nigel Folkard — will light up the town at 6pm.

Once the Christmas lights are twinkling, everyone heads seafront-side for the fireworks finale at 7.30pm. Two big celebrations, one night.

How To Get There And Where To Park

Southend is well connected by train, with Southend Central and Southend Victoria both just a short stroll from the seafront. Trains from London Liverpool Street and Fenchurch Street run regularly — a good way to dodge traffic altogether.

If you’re driving, seafront car parks fill up quickly. A smarter bet is to use one of the city centre car parks and walk down; it saves the stress of seafront gridlock after the display.

Tips For A Smooth Night

  • Get there early. By 7.30pm, the front rows are packed. Aim for at least an hour before start time if you want a prime pier-side spot.

  • Dress the part. The sea breeze has teeth in November. Layers, hats, and gloves will make the difference between cosy and miserable.

  • Think about the kids. Ear defenders are worth it for younger ones — even a ten-minute show can feel loud when you’re close.

  • Plan food ahead. Southend’s chip shops are brilliant, but queues can snake out the door. Grab food early or pick a sit-down pub for less stress.
