Sidmouth Regatta 2025: Red Arrows, Raft Races and a Firework Finale to Remember
If you're hunting for something gloriously British to do this August, look no further than the Sidmouth Regatta. Taking place from Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th August, this much-loved weekend of air displays, sea races, family fun and fireworks is a proper seaside spectacular – and yes, it’s absolutely as good as it sounds.
Red Arrows to Kick Off the Weekend
The Regatta weekend launches with a literal roar from the skies as the world-famous Red Arrows return to Sidmouth on Friday afternoon. If you've never seen them perform against the dramatic backdrop of the Jurassic Coast, now’s your chance.
Whether you're a first-timer or a regular who knows exactly where to pitch up with a deckchair and a Thermos, the Air Display is always a highlight and tends to draw in a solid crowd of around 25,000 eager spectators.
A Packed Programme of Sea, Sky and Shoreline Fun
From high-speed flypasts to good old-fashioned seaside antics, Sidmouth’s Regatta covers all bases – whether you prefer your entertainment in the air, on the water, or firmly on dry land.
Saturday is when the Regatta kicks off in earnest, with competitive action coming thick and fast from local clubs. Expect sailing races, gig rowing contests, and a high-energy surf lifesaving competition, with Sidmouth’s own lifeboat team showing off the serious skills they use to save lives at sea. It’s dramatic, inspiring and a brilliant showcase of coastal community spirit.
And then there’s the return of a true crowd favourite: the Raft Race. Organised by the Rotary Club of Sidmouth and sponsored by South West Water, this iconic event sees teams from across the Sid Valley cobble together floatable creations and take to the water in full fancy dress. It’s daft, it’s funny, and you won’t want to miss it.
Landlubbers, You’re Covered Too
For those who prefer to keep their feet firmly on terra firma, there’s still plenty to enjoy. A lively tug of war competition adds a bit of gritted-teeth glory to the mix, and a dedicated food court at the Ham means you’re never far from something tasty. On Saturday, the Watersports Hub plays host to a bar and evening entertainment, so you can settle in, sip something cold and soak up the summer vibes.
A Firework Finale Worth Staying For
Of course, no self-respecting seaside regatta would be complete without a proper firework finale – and Sidmouth doesn’t disappoint. On Saturday night at 9.15pm, the skies above Port Royal will light up in spectacular fashion with a musical pyrotechnics extravaganza.
This year’s display is in the capable hands of Sonic Fireworks, fresh from winning the British Fireworks Championships, so expect a carefully choreographed performance that ends the day with a bang (or several hundred).
Getting There and Parking Info
There’s plenty of parking available in the usual East Devon District Council spots – including the Ham, Roxborough, Mill Street and Manor Road. Additional parking will also be clearly signposted and marshalled at places like the Sidmouth Rugby and Cricket Clubs, and the top of Redwood Road. A few road closures and restrictions will be in place to help things run smoothly and keep everyone safe.
Don’t Miss It
Sidmouth Regatta Weekend is a real jewel in the South West’s summer events calendar. Whether you’re coming for the aerobatics, the rowing, the fireworks or just a cracking day out by the sea, it’s well worth making the trip.
Just don’t forget your suncream, your sense of adventure and, perhaps, a pair of earplugs for the cannon fire (you’ll know when you hear it).
