SANRIKU FIREWORKS COMPETITION 2022
Unfortunately, due to covid, many of the famous firework events across Japan were sadly cancelled or postponed to a later date. In May 2020, we covered a blog post titled 'cheer up hanabi' where fireworks were fired simultaneously all across Japan, without prior announcement!
This year, the organisers of the Sanriku Fireworks Festival have decided to host two events. Both events will take place at the Takata Matsubara Sports Park in Rikuzentakata, Iwate prefecture, which can easily accommodate approximately 20,000 spectators.
The first event will take place on Friday 29th April 2022, where over 10,000 fireworks, synchronised to music, will be launched between 7.00pm and 8.30pm.
The second event, will be a competition, and will take place on Saturday 8th October 2022 from 6.00pm to 7.30pm. Pyrotechnic manufacturers and firework specialists from all over Japan will unite, and compete against each other by launching their most impressive hand crafted firework. Last year’s event featured 23 participants and hopefully this year we will see more companies joining in.
