From New Year’s Bust to Easter Boom – Sandown’s Fireworks Return!
Well, they say good things come to those who wait, and if you were gutted about Sandown’s New Year’s Day fireworks being called off for the second year in a row due to bed weather, we’ve got great news.
The spectacular display has been rescheduled for Easter Saturday, April 19th, at 8:30pm.
A Fireworks Show Worth Waiting For
Originally planned to welcome 2025 with a bang, the display had to be postponed for the second year running thanks to high winds and rain doing their best to ruin the fun. But thanks to some top teamwork between Sandown Carnival, Sandown Pier, and the fireworks company, the show is back in the calendar and ready to light up the Isle of Wight’s coastline.
Sandown Carnival chair Paul Coueslant is just as excited as the rest of us, saying: "Thanks to the help and cooperation of Sandown Pier and the fireworks company, we’re delighted we’ve been able to re-arrange the display for another public holiday. It’s a really popular event, one of our highlights of the year, and can be seen from vantage points around the Bay as well as prime viewing locations along the town's Esplanade."
Where to Watch The Free Display
If you want the best seat in the house, head to Sandown Esplanade, where you’ll get prime views of the fireworks as they launch from the end of Sandown Pier.
The good news? Entry is completely free.
The even better news? You can support Sandown Carnival’s future events by chucking in a donation at www.sandowncarnival.com/easter.
One important note: for safety reasons, you won’t be able to watch from the outer area at the end of Sandown Pier, so make sure you pick a spot along the Esplanade or anywhere with a good view of the Bay.
Travel Tips – Get There Early!
Expect Sandown to be busy on the day, so don’t leave it till the last minute to rock up. Car parking will be in high demand, with the best options being St Johns Road, Station Avenue, The Heights, Fort Street, and Dinosaur Isle – the last three are bigger and more likely to have spaces if you’re cutting it fine.
Pier Street and Sandown Esplanade will be closed before, during, and after the display to keep everyone safe, so plan accordingly. The roads will reopen once the crowds have safely dispersed (translation: don’t be the last one lingering!).
Make a Night of It
Since you’ll be getting there early, why not turn it into a proper night out? Sandown’s got plenty of pubs, restaurants, and, of course, the pier, so grab some food, enjoy the atmosphere, and get ready for an unforgettable display.
For any last-minute updates, check out Sandown Carnival's Facebook page before you head out.
It may have taken a little longer than planned, but the Sandown fireworks are back, bigger and better than ever.
