Tokyo is normally well known for their summertime fireworks festivals, but here in Odaiba, they like to be different and carry on the festival through the winter months too.

The dark winter nights and the clear skies provides the perfect black canvas for these magnificent fireworks lighting up the night sky in a spectrum of colour and effects. Make sure that if you attend you wrap up warm as the temperature average this time of year is around 12°C (54° F) at its highest and 4°C (39°F) at its lowest.

Many of the places in and around Odaiba will be lit up including the 800-metre rainbow bridge, statue of liberty, cyberpunk city skyline and Tokyo tower in the centre along with the glistening lights coming from the illuminated pleasure cruises reflecting on the water.

Around 1,800 fireworks are launched from boats in the water just north from the rainbow bridge, giving you a fantastic view from both sides of the bay. The best place to watch the fireworks is in front of the Decks Shopping Centre, or on the Tokyo side Harumi Park is considered the best place to be.

If you fancy being a little more extravagant then why not book on one of the “yakata-bune” a cruising restaurant in Tokyo Bay and see the fireworks from the sea.

Please make sure that you check where you are standing to view the event as on some of the terraces and decks you may not be ale to stand for safety reasons, but these are clearly marked with signs (and wrote in English).

As well as the fireworks there will be street performers lining the boardwalk, a winter wonderland or even visit some of the fantastic little eateries in the malls offering some fantastic local cuisine.

Wherever you choose to watch the fireworks make sure that you take a camera with you as there is some perfect opportunities to get some perfect snapshots for the memory books. The fireworks last around 10 minutes and won’t disappoint no breaks and all the bangs, fizzes and colour you could imagine.

On Saturday 22nd December, the show will be synchronised to music making the one before Christmas just a little bit more special for the locals and visitors alike. It is advised that during this day the crowds tend to be bigger so if you want to avoid these it may be best to visit during other days.
