MACYS 4TH JULY FIREWORKS
WHAT: MACY'S 4TH JULY FIREWORKS
WHEN: SATURDAY 4th OF JULY 2015
WHAT TIME: PYROTECHNICS START AT 9.00PM
WHY: 39th ANNUAL MACY'S FIREWORK DISPLAY
WHERE: NEW YORK CITY
Regular readers to our blog will be aware that this iconic show has had a little negativity over the last few years due to its location. Seven years ago, in commemoration of Henry Hudson’s journey into New York, the venue was changed from the East river to the Hudson River. At the time, this was thought to be a temporary move but thanks to the success of the move and overwhelming support from local businesses it has stayed on the Hudson River side, depriving the residents of Queens, Manhattan and Brooklyn a decent view of the pyro – much to the annoyance of the locals.
This year however, the status quo has been restored as the display returns to its home on the East River. The brilliant twenty-five minute long display will feature over 40,000 shells at a rate of around 1,600 per minute. This colourful and vibrant show, designed by Gary Souza and a team of fifty pyro technicians, is expected to use some pretty and unusual effects such as snowball shells, glitter comets and zipping stars.
There are three locations where the fireworks will be launched from 4 specially constructed barges; these will be at 23rd Street, 37th Street and a double barge near Brooklyn Bridge.
It is recommended that viewers tune into the local radio station 1010 wins-Am which will be transmitting the music score as the show is fired. Alternatively, NBC will be screening the show live from 8pm (local time).
Special guests offering the entertainment will include the brilliant Gloria Estefan, Soul and gospel singer; Cece Winans and country star Rodney Atkins who will all be entertaining the crowds which usually top the 2 million mark!
We advise arriving at the location of your choice by around 5pm for a front row view as these popular spots will of course fill up quickly. The return to the original venue has of course reduced the number of viewing points but you may just manage to get a reservation at the River Café on the waterfront. The Brooklyn Bridge and the V E Macy Park are also expected to be very popular viewing platforms. Other good spots to set up camp will be anywhere above the lower east river bridges that gives you an unobstructed view of the sky, Manhattans FDR drive, Brooklyn bridge piers 1-6 and Brooklyn heights promenade, but again we suggest getting there early and making a day of it.
Here in the UK the maximum explosive power is double that in the US but, whilst we are happy to supply any Americans based in the UK, regrettably, due to transportation rules, we are unable to supply to the U.S.A … YET!!
