WHAT: ISLES OF SCILLY 100 YEARS FERRY LINK CELEBRATION
WHERE: ST MARYS HARBOUR AND SURROUNDING AREAS
WHEN: EVENTS FROM 15TH TO 19TH JUNE 2020
COST: FREE EVENT

The Isles of Scilly Steamship group formed in 1920 and this year will be the 100th year celebration of the travel services between the islands and the Cornish mainland.

This centenary year will be celebrated with free events including a public exhibition of historic memorabilia on the islands between the 15th and 19th of June.

2020 is the milestone celebration for the group, which has come a long way from its roots of being a small ferry operator, to providing transport services and year-round freight shipping services and sky bus flights from Land’s End, Newquay, and Exeter Airports.

The week of celebration comes to an end on Friday the 19th of June with a major community event that will be held in Scilly for both locals and visitors taking place in Holgate’s Green in Hugh Town from 6pm to 11pm. There will be live music from local bands and performers throughout the evening including the Scilly- Steam band performing the finale of the evening.

To make sure that everyone is fed and watered, there will be a marquee on the green offering BBQ and hot food along with pop up bar and beer tent run by the Rotary Club of isles of Scilly.

The end of the day ends with a bang as the celebration concludes with a fantastic firework display from Cornish firm Celebration Pyrotechnics at 10:45pm. The fireworks will be set off from the end of St Mary’s Quay and hopefully, if the weather is clear enough will be able to be seen from the other islands. For the best view of the fireworks, the top vantage point is Holgate’s Green.

There will also be several offers, giveaways, and competitions to enter to help everyone attending join in the celebrations.
