Independence Day 2023 For our friends across the pond, the 4th of July is a very special day in their country’s history.
It commemorates the Declaration of Independence, which was ratified on 4th July, 1776, establishing the United States of America, and meant that the thirteen colonies were no longer subject to rule by the Monarch of Britain (at the time this was King George III.)
Celebrations of Independence Day (mostly referred to by US citizens as just ‘’4th July’’) include fireworks, meeting with family, barbecues, parades, and baseball games to name a few.
Organised displays take place across the country, along with many people setting off their own fireworks at home. Here are some of the best displays on offer in the States on 4th July…
New York
What better way to celebrate than in the Big Apple? New York is the most famous place in the USA to celebrate the 4th of July, and if you are a lover of city breaks, this is your perfect destination!
Washington DC
Being the capital of the USA, Washington DC is sure to go big! With a colourful 35-minute display with the iconic monuments of Washington DC as the backdrop.
Boston
Head to Boston for a spectacular 4th July party, called Boston Pops! With plenty of entertainment, live music and fireworks, this is definitely one to add to your list!
Nashville
Nashville is hosting it’s Music City event, featuring some brilliant artists with a variety of musical genres, and claims to have one of the largest fireworks shows in the country, synchronized to music!
New Orleans
With balmy summer evenings and both a musical and culinary culture to be reckoned with, New Orleans is a wonderful place to celebrate the Fourth of July. The big attraction is the ‘duelling barges’ display at the Go Fourth on the River event, an annual tradition in which plumes of red, white, and blue firework fountains are set off from steamboats on the Mississippi. Philadelphia Being the city in which the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776, Philadelphia is an historically significant special place to spend the Fourth of July. Here they have a week-long celebration involving parades, free concerts and an epic fireworks display over the regal, colonnaded Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Las Vegas Anybody who has been in Las Vegas on the Fourth of July knows that it’s where you will find the best parties and biggest fireworks shows anywhere and this year’s celebration will be one of the most epic ever. The town will be bustling with activities and events from parades, concerts, shows, pool parties, picnics, tours and of course, Fireworks. The fireworks will be launched from various venues, such as the Plaza Hotel & Casino, Caesars Palace, Mandalay Bay, Lake Las Vegas, Heritage Park, Cowabunga Bay & Cowabunga Canyon, the Las Vegas Ballpark and Boulder City.
