Hong Kong Welcomes Back Lunar New Year Fireworks Extravaganza

After a four-year hiatus, the much-anticipated Lunar New Year fireworks show is set to return to Hong Kong. Not seen since 2020, this marks a fantastic return to national celebrations for residents and visitors alike after a turbulent few years due to the pandemic and social unrest.

Organisers have unveiled plans for a spectacular 23-minute display, scheduled for February 11, the second day of the Year of the Dragon. The extravaganza promises to delight spectators with eight mesmerising segments, featuring an impressive array of 23,888 fireworks.

Preparations are in full swing for the grand event, which will see the fireworks launched from three barges stationed in the waters off the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. The display, coordinated by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau and sponsored by the Hong Kong Celebrations Association, is estimated to cost HK$13 million, underscoring the significance of this occasion.

Themed "China is Strong in the Year of the Dragon, when All Industries Are Prosperous," the fireworks extravaganza aims to usher in the Lunar New Year with prosperity and good fortune. Spectators can expect to enjoy fireworks in the shape of gold ingots, dragon eggs, smiley faces and other festive designs, symbolising prosperity and abundance for the year ahead.

The public is invited to gather at various viewing points across the city to witness the spectacular display. From Tsim Sha Tsui to Mid-Levels, Central District to Wan Chai, and beyond, spectators can enjoy the festivities and join in the celebratory atmosphere as Hong Kong welcomes the Year of the Dragon in style.

As the countdown to the Lunar New Year begins, anticipation is building for this long-awaited event, promising an unforgettable start to the new lunar cycle and reigniting the spirit of celebration in Hong Kong. Stay tuned for updates and prepare to be mesmerised by the magic of the Lunar New Year fireworks extravaganza in the vibrant heart of the city.
