Highclere Castle Battle Proms 2025: Music, History, and a Firework Finale
If you're looking for an evening of stirring classical music, breathtaking displays, and a spectacular firework finale, then Highclere Castle Battle Proms is the summer event you won’t want to miss.
Taking place on Saturday, 2nd of August, this open-air picnic concert is set against the stunning backdrop of Highclere Castle – more famously known to many as Downton Abbey.
But this isn’t just about waving flags and humming along to Land of Hope and Glory (although there will be plenty of that). With cavalry displays, Spitfires roaring overhead, and the unmistakable thump of Napoleonic cannons, this is an event that thrills all the senses.
A Night of Spectacular Entertainment
The New English Concert Orchestra will take centre stage, delivering a two-hour programme packed with rousing classical favourites. Expect the full ‘Last Night of the Proms’ experience, featuring much-loved pieces like the 1812 Overture and Beethoven’s ‘Battle Symphony’, complete with live cannon fire providing the percussion.
And because music is best enjoyed with a bit of drama, the evening is packed with historical displays and performances, including:
-
WWII and Napoleonic living history reenactments – step back in time and witness history brought to life
-
Daring cavalry displays – showcasing military horsemanship at its finest
-
A Spitfire flypast – watch in awe as the legendary aircraft takes to the skies
-
The Red Devils display team – precision skydiving at its most impressive
-
The Battle Proms Belles – bringing vintage 1940s harmonies to get the toes tapping
Dancing, Picnicking, and the Perfect Summer Atmosphere
The Brooks & Baker dancers will keep the vintage spirit alive with swing dancing and live jazz, marking 80 years since the end of WWII. It’s the perfect excuse to pack a picnic, pop a bottle of fizz, and enjoy a summer evening surrounded by music, history, and a fantastic crowd.
The night reaches its grand finale with a stunning firework display above Highclere Castle in time with the orchestra’s final pieces. It’s a truly unforgettable experience – and a perfect way to round off a magical summer evening.
