Fleet Lions Celebrate £38,000 Success at Charity Firework Event - And How You Can Do The Same
Fleet Lions are positively roaring with pride after their latest charity fireworks extravaganza, which raised a jaw-dropping £38,000 for local good causes.
Held earlier this month, the Bonfire Night event saw 6,000 attendees gather to enjoy a dazzling £5,500 worth of fireworks, delicious hot food, and mulled wine to help keep the November chill at bay.
The event wasn’t just about brightening up the sky—it also brightened the coffers of the Fleet Lions charity, ensuring they can continue their incredible work across the local community. And with thousands of pounds raised just through online ticket sales alone, it’s safe to say this bonfire night wasn’t just a spark—it was an outright explosion of fundraising.
An Effort of Lionhearted Proportions
While the spectacle seemed seamless to those watching, behind the scenes was a hive of activity. It took over 120 volunteers to make the night a success, far outnumbering the Lions’ own membership. The group extended heartfelt thanks to the many individuals and organisations that helped out.
A special shoutout went to Hampshire Search and Rescue, who provided security, and the local Scouts, who not only served up hot food but also cleared the park the next day—with a little help from a billy goat, no less. Fleet Town Council, Hart District Council, and Fleet Town Football Club were also thanked for their logistical support, from parking to providing essential access.
Fleet Lions President Jim Pitkin summed it up best:
"I think we gave the people of Fleet a fabulous fireworks display, and surely big events are the way to go nowadays. We hope they also were well-fed and watered. And the Lions’ charity bank balance is now significantly higher—we’ll be able to help so many people."
Why Fireworks and Fundraising Go Hand-in-Hand
Events like this one highlight just how powerful a fireworks display can be when it comes to rallying communities for a cause. Fleet’s example isn’t unique—charity firework nights across the country are vital lifelines for organisations doing important local work.
