Fireworks, Fun, and a Surprise Win: The 2024 British Firework Championships Results

The British Firework Championships, now in its 27th year, once again lit up the skies over Plymouth with spectacular displays that wowed over 100,000 spectators this month.

The competition, held over two nights, saw six teams vying for the prestigious title and £4,000 prize money, but this year’s event was not without its drama.

A Night of Stunning Displays

The two-day competition, which took place on August 14th and 15th, featured a series of breathtaking firework displays from some of the best pyrotechnic teams in the UK. Each team brought its A-game, delivering dazzling sequences of colour, rhythm, and explosive power. The competition was fierce, with each display seemingly outdoing the last.

A Sudden Turn of Events

Dorset-based Anytime Fireworks initially stole the show on the second night, leaving the crowd in awe with their expertly choreographed display. Their performance was so well received that they were not only crowned the winners of the British Firework Championships but also took home the Young People’s Choice Award—a prize judged by local care-experienced children who rated the displays based on variety, sequence, rhythm, colour, and the all-important wow factor.

However, the celebrations were short-lived. Event organisers later announced that Anytime Fireworks had been removed from the competition due to a launching technicality. This unexpected twist reshuffled the rankings, with East-Sussex-based BBB Fireworks, who had originally been named runners-up, being elevated to the top spot. Their performance, which was the final display of the competition, had already impressed both the judges and the audience, and this recognition further cemented their reputation in the pyrotechnics world.

Celestial Firework Displays from Leicestershire moved up to second place, while Pyrotex Fireworks, who consistently deliver high-quality performances, claimed third place. Interestingly, Pyrotex Fireworks also won the Young People’s Choice Award, highlighting their appeal to a wide audience.

Competitor Lineup and Their Performances

The 2024 British Firework Championships saw six top-tier teams from across the UK vying for the coveted title. Over two nights, the skies above Plymouth were lit up by displays of exceptional creativity, precision, and technical prowess.

Wednesday, 14 August:

  • Smart Pyrotechnics (Wiltshire): Known for their precision and creativity, Smart Pyrotechnics kicked off the competition with a display that was nothing short of breathtaking. Their show was a masterclass in timing and choreography, leaving spectators in awe of their technical execution.

  • Sky Rascal Fireworks (Somerset): Following Smart Pyrotechnics, Sky Rascal Fireworks brought their innovative approach to the competition. Their display was a captivating blend of traditional and modern pyrotechnic techniques, which kept the audience on the edge of their seats.

  • Pyrotex Fireworks (East Staffordshire): The final team on the first night, Pyrotex Fireworks, combined their technical expertise with artistic flair to deliver a mesmerising show. Their display was a highlight of the evening, showcasing why they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of pyrotechnics.

    Thursday, 15 August:

    • Anytime Fireworks (Dorset): The second night began with a bang, courtesy of Anytime Fireworks. Known for their breathtaking displays, they did not disappoint, lighting up the night sky with a vibrant and exciting show. Although their initial victory was later amended, their performance was undoubtedly one of the most memorable of the event.

    • Celestial Firework Displays (Leicestershire): Bringing a touch of magic to the competition, Celestial Firework Displays delivered an immersive pyrotechnic experience. Their display was a seamless blend of colour and rhythm, earning them the runner-up position after the final results were reviewed.

    • BBB Fireworks (East Sussex): Closing the competition with a stunning performance, BBB Fireworks dazzled audiences with their expertise and creativity. Their display was not only the final act but also the one that clinched the championship title after the review. Their precision and impactful sequences left a lasting impression, securing their place as the 2024 champions.

Each team brought something unique to the competition, making this year’s British Firework Championships one of the most exciting in recent memory. With a mix of innovative techniques, stunning visual effects, and perfectly timed sequences, the competition showcased the very best of British pyrotechnics.

    Final Thoughts

The 2024 British Firework Championships will be remembered not only for the stunning displays but also for the unexpected turn of events that kept everyone on their toes. While the competition had its share of controversy, the spirit of the event remained intact—celebrating the art and science of fireworks in a truly spectacular fashion.

As the smoke clears and the winners take their well-deserved bows, we’re already looking forward to what next year’s competition will bring. If this year’s displays are anything to go by, the 2025 British Firework Championships will be another event not to be missed.
