Fireworks Finale For A Great British Proms Spectacular

With the Country still reeling from the success of the London Olympics 2012 and the celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, there was little going to top it. Having said that, Saturday saw the best of British in a Proms Spectacular at Castle Howard would celebrate the best of British pomp and circumstance with popular classics, movie theme tunes and the mandatory flag waving from the heaving masses.

Proms night featured the wonderful English National Orchestra with conductor Jae Alexander at the podium, Tenor John Hudson and Soprano Janet Mooney. Special guest performances were performed by Only Men Aloud, winners of the BBC’s The Last Choir Standing, and rising young classical group Amore.

The Proms programme included a Second World War Spitfire flyover to the Dambusters theme and Calling All Workers. As darkness descended, fireworks lit up the Yorkshire sky, choreographed to accompany Rule Britannia, Jerusalem, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and Elgar’s Pomp & Circumstance March No 1. Other music included the Harry Potter theme tune and the Cornetto advertisement better known as ‘O Sole Mio’.

The visiting crowds had a great time and the event closed just after 10:30 on Saturday evening to rapturous applause at the end of the finale fireworks.

Unfortunately, as yet we have not been able to locate any of the film footage from this Year’s event fireworks but this is some footage of the 2011 event to wet your appetite:
