Fireworks and Music Spectacular in Derby

Thousands descended on Derby this weekend in a pyro musical spectacular to celebrate the life of clockmaker John Whitehurst, 18th century clockmaker.

The concert, featuring Classical and Contemporary compositions from the likes of Grieg, Strauss and Vivaldi alongside such classic pop/rock tracks like Bryan Adams’ Summer of 69 and Lennon and McCartney’s Hard Days Night, there was something for everyone to enjoy in this thoroughly eclectic mix. The orchestra was joined by X-Factor contestant Marcus Collins and former EastEnders's/Your Face Sounds Familiar finalist actress-singer/songwriter Cheryl Ferguson who both thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

The event started at 6:00pm on 1st September and spectators were advised to get along early, armed of course with picnic blankets, fold out chairs and tables and of course food and an umbrella (on the off-chance you needed to shield yourself from the glaring sunshine!). The park was full as far as the eye could see with champagne corks popping and luscious picnics being tucked into everywhere.

Previous year’s events have been extremely popular bringing in people from far and wide to enjoy the ‘feel’ of the iconic last night of the proms without having to travel hundreds of miles.

The fireworks finale was, of course, the highlight of the event (in our opinion of course) and the fireworks were beautifully choreographed to the dramatic musical score The Ride of The Valkyries from Die Walkure.

This has to be one of the loveliest ways to spend a late summer evening. If you did manage to get along, please could you let us have any pictures or video footage – we would genuinely love to see them.
