Fireworks and Bloodsports at San Isidro Festival - Madrid

The annual Saint Isidro Festival is held around 15 May and it celebrates the life of Madrid's patron saint. He was declared a saint in 1622, and he forms part of many of the city's legends and history.

A week of festivities is organised in Madrid to commemorate Saint Isidro. Not only do the best Spanish matadors take to the famous Las Ventas bullring in Madrid, but there are also fireworks, parades, open-air concerts, and traditional dancing in the streets. This event attracts Spaniards and other tourists from all over the Iberian Peninsula to see some of the spectacular bullfights which take place in one of the most important bullrings in Spain.
