Enjoying the Hannover International Fireworks Competition 2025

If you’ve ever thought, "You know what would make a night out even better? A sky full of explosions," then congratulations – you’ve got excellent taste. The Hannover International Fireworks Competition is back for 2025, bringing together some of the best pyrotechnic minds on the planet for a firework battle of epic proportions.

This year is extra special because it’s the 350th anniversary of the Herrenhausen Gardens, which means even more reason to set things on fire (in a controlled, artistic, and entirely legal manner, of course).

How It Works

The competition is simple: each team gets 25 minutes to make their case for fireworks greatness. Their display must be choreographed to music, tell a story (ideally not just "big bang, bigger bang"), and impress a panel of expert judges who have seen it all before. It’s a tough gig, but when it’s done right, it’s pure magic.

Expect everything from precision-timed explosions to effects you didn’t even know existed. The judges will be watching for creativity, synchronisation, and sheer wow factor, while the crowd will be watching for the one that made them forget to blink for 10 minutes straight.

Meet the 2025 Teams

This year, five top-class pyrotechnic teams will be competing for the crown. Let’s take a look at who’s stepping up to the plate:

Team USA – Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks (17th May 2025)

Founded in 1895 in Italy before making their way across the pond, Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks is now a five-generation, family-run powerhouse in the fireworks world. Known for their bold colours, intricate designs, and bang-on timing, they’ve impressed at the Danang International Fireworks Festival in 2024 and are ready to do the same in Hannover.

Team Netherlands – Dutch Fireworks Professional (14th June 2025)

A relatively young team, founded in 2012, but don’t let that fool you. These Dutch pyromaniacs have made a name for themselves on the world stage, even designing a personal fireworks show for King Willem-Alexander (which, let’s be honest, is a solid line on any CV). It’s been 29 years since the Netherlands last competed in Hannover, and they’re keen to make it worth the wait.

Team Canada – Firemaster Productions (16th August 2025)

Hailing from Niagara Falls, Firemaster Productions has been setting the sky alight since 2006. They’ve previously taken 2nd place in Hannover in 2016 and won Vancouver’s Celebration of Light in 2019. Under the leadership of Sean Morris, they take music-matching very seriously, spending countless hours picking the perfect tunes for their displays.

Team Italy – Pirotecnica Morsani (6th September 2025)

One of the oldest competitors this year, Pirotecnica Morsani has been wowing crowds since 1880. They specialise in musical fireworks, and their resume includes everything from the 700th anniversary of Bilbao to New Year’s Eve celebrations in Rome and Verona. If you’re a fan of classic Italian drama, you won’t want to miss this one.

Team England – Pyrotex Fireworx (20th September 2025)

And last but absolutely not least, the home team. Pyrotex Fireworx has been blowing minds (safely) since 1999, and their trophy cabinet is getting out of hand. Their most recent victory was in Vancouver in 2024, where they scooped up both the jury and audience awards. They’ve also won the Grand Champions title in the Philippines (2019), so let’s just say they know their way around a Catherine wheel.

The Venue: A 350-Year-Old Garden That’s Seen Some Things

The competition takes place in the stunning Herrenhausen Gardens, a 50-hectare masterpiece of hedgerows, statues, and perfectly manicured lawns. Originally designed by Sophia of Hanover in the 17th century, it has hosted royalty, survived WWII bombings, and still looks as good as ever.

This year, the competition is part of Herrenhausen’s 350th-anniversary celebrations, so expect extra spectacle, a little bit of history, and probably someone in period costume lurking around.

More Than Just Fireworks

Of course, the fireworks are the main event, but there’s plenty more to enjoy. Each night is a full-on festival, with live music, theatrical performances, and street entertainers keeping spirits high before the big show.

If you fancy something a bit more cultural, there are also art installations and historical exhibits, so you can tell people you totally went for the educational experience (even though we both know you’re there for the explosions).

And when hunger strikes, don’t worry – there’ll be food stalls serving up everything from classic German bratwurst to sweet treats to keep you fuelled until the grand finale.

Planning Your Visit (So You Don’t Miss Out)

If you’re thinking of heading over to Hannover, here’s what you need to know:
