Carnival blasts-off with fireworks
Desborough Carnival committee has organised an outdoor evening of music and fireworks at Desborough Leisure Centre at 7.45pm on Saturday, May 9.
It has been arranged after the town's fireworks display was cancelled in November.
Music will be provided by Montsaye Community College Concert Band supported by a variety of other bands.
The evening will climax with a fireworks display.
Committee chairman Michael Crick said "It is the first time we have held this event. We would encourage everyone to support us and if successful it is hoped to make it an annual event on the town calendar.
On June 4 the carnival celebrations will continue in the form of a slide show evening at the indoor bowl's centre where pictures of previous carnivals will be on display.
Carnival week itself kicks off with the quiz evening to be held on Monday, June 22, at the indoor bowl's centre followed by parade day on Saturday, June 27.
The committee has finalized its events which will feature a parade through the town, a vintage scooter show, and displays by the British Chinese Kickboxing Team.
Mr Crick said: "The committee felt that by making the judging slightly earlier it would enable us to put more into the afternoon timetable of events on the recreation ground.
"Entertainment organised so far includes a dog display and the annual five-a-side football. There will also be many stalls and sideshows."
All money raised will go to charities and groups based in the towns.
Tickets for the music and fireworks display cost £6 for adults and £3 for children and are available from Desborough Heritage Centre.
