British Musical Fireworks Championship 2025: The Champions Return
The British Musical Fireworks Championship is back for 2025 — and this year, it’s not just big, it’s blow-your-socks-off enormous.
Taking over Victoria Park in Southport on the 27th and 28th of September, the 2025 edition isn't just any old competition. This time, the event brings together six of the UK’s finest firework display teams — all of them past winners — for a head-to-head battle to crown the Champion of Champions.
If you’ve never been before, imagine the UK’s most accomplished firework teams pouring months of planning into displays that are precisely choreographed to music, all in a massive open park with thousands of firework fans. Then crank that image up to eleven. That’s the BMFC. And this time, it’s nothing short of a showdown for the ages.
What’s So Special About This Year?
Well, for starters, every team competing has already taken the top spot in a previous year. These aren’t hopefuls — they’re seasoned pyro pros with something to prove. Think of it like Glastonbury, but everyone on stage has headlined before and now they’re back to blow the others off it.
The Championship isn’t just about chucking a few rockets in the air, either. Each display is a fully orchestrated performance. It takes over a dozen technicians per team more than 12 hours to rig each show, with roughly five kilometres of wiring and upwards of 10 tonnes of fireworks on site. These aren’t garden displays. They’re full-throttle sky operas with bangs in all the right places.
On both nights, the action kicks off from 5.30pm, with live music, food and drinks flowing until the first firework hits the sky just after 8. As the light fades, the night comes alive with sound, colour, and a level of pyrotechnic precision that’s genuinely jaw-dropping.
The 2025 Line-up
Saturday night sees Imperial Lotus Southeast Ltd (2023 winners), Dragon Fireworks Ltd (2021 champs), and Optimum Fireworks (who took the title in 2022) each take a turn at lighting up the Southport sky. These are some of the slickest, most creative teams in the business — and none of them are likely to play it safe.
On Sunday, it’s Pyrotex Fireworks (with back-to-back wins in 2010 and 2011), Bright Sparks Fireworks (champions in 2016 and fresh off their 2024 win), and a special closing exhibition from Jubilee Fireworks Ltd — the original winners from way back in 1999 and the first ever Champion of Champions in 2008. Expect a finale worthy of the title.
Every performance is judged by a professional panel, looking at everything from musicality and creativity to technical execution and crowd impact. But let’s be honest — you don’t need to know the judging criteria to appreciate a sky full of colour timed perfectly to a cracking soundtrack. You just need to show up, find a good spot, and let the magic unfold.
The Full Experience
Arrive early and you’ll be greeted with the sort of lively festival buzz that makes these events so much more than just fireworks. The gates open at 5.30pm (or 5pm if you need additional support), and from then on it’s all go.
There’ll be street food traders dishing out everything from burgers to noodles, bars serving up pints and hot drinks, plus music and entertainment to keep the energy high. For families, there’ll be inflatables and face painting — and more glitter than you can shake a sparkler at.
Things really start to heat up around 6.30pm when the live music kicks off. But it’s from 8pm onwards that the real spectacle begins. Displays are spaced throughout the evening to give you time to breathe, grab a drink, and argue with your mates over which team nailed it and which one just missed the mark. Spoiler: they’re usually all brilliant.
Plan Your Trip
The event takes place in Victoria Park, Rotten Row, Southport (postcode PR8 2BZ if you’re plugging it into the satnav). If you’re driving, the official car park is in Princes Park, which opens at 4pm. It’s £8 for the evening, and it’s just a short walk to the main gates.
Prefer to travel by train? Southport station is well connected, with regular services from Liverpool and the wider North West. It’s only a 10-minute stroll to the park from the station, so you can leave the car at home and still get there in good time for your first pint and portion of chips.
The event’s fully accessible too, with early access for those with mobility needs and suitable facilities on site. If you need support, the organisers recommend contacting them in advance to help make your visit as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
Tickets and Info
Now here’s the important bit: there are no ticket sales on the gate. You’ll need to book in advance through SeeTickets.com, and it’s very likely to sell out.
Standard entry is £12 per person, seated tickets are £25, and kids under five go free. Not a bad price for what’s essentially a night of theatrical pyrotechnics under the stars.
It’s a cracking night out for couples, families, friends, or just yourself if you fancy a solo date with the sky. Trust us — once you’ve seen one of these displays, a garden sparkler just won’t cut it anymore.
