Everything You Need to Know About the 2025 Battle of Flowers in Jersey (Including Fireworks, Obviously)
If you're looking for an event in 2025 that delivers bright blooms by day, sparkling lights by night, and a healthy dose of fireworks to top it all off, then the Jersey Battle of Flowers should be firmly on your summer calendar.
Yes, the iconic event may be slightly scaled back this year, but the Battle spirit is very much alive — and with a firework finale on the cards, you know we’re already mentally booking our ferry.
Here’s the lowdown on what’s happening, when, and where to stand for the best view of those glorious sky blooms.
What is the Jersey Battle of Flowers?
The Battle of Flowers is one of the Channel Islands’ most famous and flamboyant festivals, first held in 1902 to celebrate the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. The tradition stuck, and for over a century it’s been Jersey’s proudest (and most floral) parade, attracting thousands of spectators every year.
Typically, the event features daytime and evening parades where floral floats, dancers, musicians, and entertainers take over St Helier’s streets — all rounded off with an electrifying firework finale.
Financial hiccups meant the full-scale event was postponed this year, but thanks to the newly formed Jersey Battle of Flowers Ltd, the show is definitely still going on — and better yet, this year’s festivities are completely free to attend.
Battle of Flowers 2025 Parade Dates and Details
For 2025, here’s what to expect:
-
Friday 8 August: Day Parade, kicking off at 1pm
-
Saturday 9 August: Evening Parade, from 7:30pm, featuring illuminated floats and the all-important fireworks finale
Both parades will start from the Esplanade, wind their way to Liberation Square, past the Town Hall, and along the Parade before looping back to the starting point.
If it’s anything like previous years, you’ll want to grab your spot early — Jersey locals take their flower battles seriously, and with 20 floral floats, bands, dancers, and local talent filling the streets, you’ll be fighting for front-row views.
Why Is This Year’s Battle of Flowers Scaled Down?
Let’s address the gladiolus in the room — yes, 2025’s event is a leaner affair. The previous organisers ran into financial difficulties in 2023, chalking up a hefty £80,000 loss even with a £150,000 government grant. Last year’s event was propped up by an even more generous £270,000 grant, but the long-term sustainability of the event needed a rethink.
Enter Jersey Battle of Flowers Ltd — the new team dedicated to revitalising the festival, ensuring it doesn’t wilt under financial pressure, and keeping the tradition blooming for future generations. The scaled-back version is very much a ‘keep it alive’ year, with plans to return to the full extravaganza in 2026.
Fireworks and Festivities — The Perfect Combo
Of course, no Battle of Flowers evening parade is complete without fireworks, and 2025’s event is no exception. Once the illuminated floats have dazzled the crowds, the night will end with a bang — literally — as fireworks light up the Jersey sky.
We’re not saying that’s the best part of the event, but we’re not not saying it either.
