Every year in Valetta, Malta, their International Fireworks Festival dazzles crowds who travel from all over the world to see this spectacle.

This festival has been taking place since 2003, but Malta’s history with fireworks goes back much further than this. In fact, it is rumoured that Malta’s passion for fireworks began during the Order of the Knight’s of St. John. It is reported that the order would celebrate their most treasured occasions with special pyrotechnic displays.

Since The Order of St. John had such a large influence over the Maltese islands, (which is still recognisable today,) the tradition continued. Since, Malta has a huge fireworks culture, and is also a huge manufacturer of pyro. There are 35 fireworks factories on the Maltese Islands, and the detail and intricacies that go into manufacturing these fireworks is insane.

The craziest part of it all? Most of the workers who create this brilliant Pyro are volunteers! They do this due to the amount of passion they have for the industry.
