Record-Breaking Charitable Contributions Thanks To Ely's Fireworks Spectacular

The Ely Community Events Team (ECET) has broken records with their latest charitable contributions following the resounding success of the annual fireworks extravaganza at Cherry Hill Park on November 4, 2023.

This year, they were able to donate a remarkable £2,500 to the Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust, a significant boost to the hospital's efforts in supporting cancer patients, particularly children and their families.

Mayor of Ely, Cllr Chris Phillips, proudly presented the cheque to Joe Sagoe, the Trust’s corporate lead, at the Ely Tourist Information Centre.

This unprecedented level of fundraising has enabled ECET to make the highest number of donations ever recorded, all directed towards local charities, community organisations, and noble causes. A total of 34 donations have been given, with one major beneficiary yet to be revealed.

Recipients of the donations span a diverse range, including schools and youth groups in dire need of equipment, local arts initiatives, Age UK, homeless shelters, and the Ely Foodbank, a cornerstone of support for the less fortunate in the community.

Michael Judkins, representing the ECET, expressed deep appreciation to all who contributed to the success of the event, citing Radio Cambridgeshire and host Louise Hulland, Fireworks Crazy for their dazzling display, Ely Cathedral for graciously providing the venue, local outlets for their assistance in ticket sales, and valued event sponsors Cambridge Commodities.

The tireless efforts of the ECET extend beyond the fireworks display, with preparations already underway for the 2024 event. Save the date: November 2 promises another unforgettable evening of festivities and philanthropy.
