2019 will be the 22nd edition of the event and officially marks the beginning of the summer throughout the Czech Republic.

A special event has been planned this year as it will be an extra celebration to commemorate the 150-year anniversary of public transport in Brno also the grand finale on the Saturday the 15th of June will be for the anniversary of Brno Universities.

The event lasts around 2 weeks and involves the whole city of Brno. Originally the firework competition was non-competitive and was launched from the city centre. Following this, there were exhibition displays and a national competition held through to 2003 when it was officially launched as an international competition.

Spectators will be treated to 4 firework shows at the Brno Dam, with a further two displays in the skylines above the stunning Spilberk Castle. With some of the best pyrotechnic teams from all over the world competing against each other, this is one competition that will not disappoint.

Each of the competitors must produce a show lasting around 22 mins with synchronised music alongside the fireworks and along with this, the show will be broadcast on the local radio station Radio Crocodile who is celebrating its 25th birthday this year.

Friday 24th May – 22:30 – Prelude show

“municipal mobile transport in 3 centuries: the horse sleeve – carolinka- slaughter”. Held at the Moravian capitals main feature the Spilberk Castle, it is the opening fireworks show in memory of the 150 years of public transport in Brno and has been designed by the Czech republics very own Ivan Martinek from Theatrum Pyroboli.

Saturday 1st June 2019 – 22:30pm

Opening the show at the Brno dam will be another Czech team Flash Barrandov there fireworks display is name “God save the queen” and will be based around the legendary rock band Queen not the royal family.

Groupo Luso Pirotechnia – Portugal – Fire Dance

  • 2nd competitive Show – Saturday 8th June – 22:30 @Brno Dam

Platinum Fireworks – Philippines – Jazz How It Is

  • 3rd competitive show – Wednesday 12th June – 22:30 @ Brno Dam

North Star Fireworks – Norway – Fight For Your Dreams

  • Epilogue show – Saturday 15th June 22:30pm @ Spilberk Castle

The final fireworks are in honour of the Brno universities. Design and production of the display by the joint Ignis Brunesis team under the leadership of Flash Barrandov SFX.

Attracting over 100,000 each year the competition continues to delight old and young alike. All the public fireworks viewing areas are free. However, for the competitions on the dam, there are also special sounded tribune for seating areas these are located behind the dock in the bay. Admission to this area on individual fireworks days will be around 250 CZK around £9 to £10 GBP and need to be purchased in advance where possible.
