The Honda celebration of light is into it 28th consecutive year and is still one of the most popular events in Vancouver. Throughout the days and evenings, the crowd expected over the 3-day period is growing year on year. With up to 1 million spectators last year, the organisers are expecting the event to be bigger and better than ever before. Beaches and parks in and around English Bay will be packed out with everyone wanting to get their spot early to get the best views of the displays.

For the first time in the history of the event, the competitors must all follow a theme and incorporate this into the firework display along with the music. The theme for this year as chosen by the public vote is all “love”.

Red Heart Firework Effect

The fireworks are all set up and fired from barges located in English bay and ‘blast off’ will take place at 10pm every evening come rain or shine; so, make sure that you don’t only arrive early but that you come well prepared.

For the prime viewing spots for the event, you can pre-book into the observation lounge making sure you and family or friends have the best seats in the house for the show. Prices cost $44 so around £26 per ticket. This is plus the applicable services and charges.

If you fancy doing something a little more different then there are bars and lounges offering different packages with not only some of the best seats in the house but also including food and drinks packages.

The three main places to watch the fireworks are Second Beach, English Bay, and Kitsilano / Vanier Park. All of them offer plenty things to do for all the family along with an array of food stalls to sample the local cuisine, live music performances and of course at the end of each evening an incredible fireworks display.

The programme for the event is as follows –

• Saturday 28th July – South Africa – Fireworks for Africa
• Wednesday 1st August – Sweden – Unique Pyrotechnic
• Saturday 4th August – South Korea – Daehan Firework Co

The companies are judged by some industry experts, sponsor representatives and some local celebrities. Along with this you as the audience also get your chance to vote as there is now an app available to download. Once all the competitors have fired, the judges then add up the marks and the winner of the show will be announced, and the prizes and trophies are handed out.

This certainly is going to be one of biggest and most beautiful sky filling events in the Canadian event calendar, so make sure that you get yourself along to witness this first hand for yourself.
