The Sound Of Sparklers
We are of course interested in all things pyro, sparklers being no exception.
Having come across this fascinating video footage, we could not wait to share it with you.
Using 40 sparklers, 3 fountains (not roman candles as detailed in the video) and 40 contact microphones, this unusual piece was created.
The sounds were created from a compilation of feedback, vibration, wind and the expansion and contraction of a crash cymbal following heating and cooling, this recording is nothing short of magical.
It just goes to show that even with the most inconsequential of fireworks and a little imagination, with the minimal amount of digital mastering, the recordings create an eerie sound akin to picking a guitar with secondary sounds which would not be out of place in any horror film.
The crescendo of sounds, which like airwaves ebb and flow, combined with the crackles of the sparklers, the end result sounds like a glockenspiel with a finale created by lighting 3 fountains consecutively.
