National Cherry Blossom Festival is held every year to commemorate the 1912 gifting of cherry blossom trees to the city of Washington DC by Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo City.
The festival is comprised of many separate events, listed below…
• The Opening Ceremony
• The Blossom Kite Festival
• Petalpalooza
• Parade
• Pink Tie Party & more!
During the ‘’Petalpalooza’’ event, which will be held on the 8th of April 2023, there will be a fireworks display at the Yards Navy Yard Metro, see here the display from 2019.
This beautiful festival has a full website with further details, including all the dates for the various events happening around the city.
If you are lucky enough to be there for this event, keep an eye out for various neighbourhoods in Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland, who will also be taking part in ‘Petal Porches’, where they decorate the front of their houses with the lovely pink petals.
There will also be stunning and unique art installations throughout Washington DC and surrounding areas for the duration of the event.
