BLACKPOOL WORLD FIREWORK CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018

WHAT: BLACKPOOL WORLD FIREWORK CHAMPIONSHIP
WHEN: 7TH, 14TH, 21ST AND 28TH SEPTEMBER 2018
WHERE: NORTH PIER, BLACKPOOL, LANCASHIRE, UK
WHY: INTERNATIONAL PYROTECHNIC COMPETITION
COST: FREE

2018 marks the 20th Blackpool World Firework Championships event offering visitors to the Town of Blackpool the opportunity to see some of the greatest exponents of the field of pyrotechnics doing their stuff on the iconic North Pier for FREE!!

Organised by Titanium Fireworks and the Local Authorities, the event brings international teams over to entertain the crowds who gather for the annual firework event and of course the incredible Blackpool Illuminations.

The Illuminations have been part of the Autumn calendar for Blackpool since 1879 and were aptly described as artificial sunshine due to the un-natural brilliance at this time of the year. I recall going to see them for the first time as a child (a very long time ago now … 19721!) they were captivating and I walked into more people than enough as my eyes were directed upwards in awe at the fascinating lights and characters.

This free light show shines non-stop each night for 66 nights, featuring 100 miles of festooned lights along the staggering 6 mile stretch of the seafront of Blackpool and attracts an incredible 3 million visitors annually.

The competition will take place over 3 consecutive Friday’s on the 7th, 14th and 21st September and then on the final night, the Brits will take centre stage on 28th under the tutelage of Titanium Fireworks before the winning international team is announced.

A perfect weekend break for families and couples alike this is a must do for your bucket list. There is always lots to do whatever the weather and the people are friendly (of course, they will be, they are Northerners!). The choice of food ranges from the usual High Street offerings of Nando’s to family-friendly local Italian restaurants, many of which offer ‘early bird’ discounts which are brilliant for children if you need them to eat earlier.

We will bring you details of this year’s competitors as soon as they become available but last year, the team from South Africa imaginatively called ‘Fireworks for South Africa’ beat off the best from Poland and France to pick the top spot.

We will bring you this year’s runners and riders so to speak as soon as they are available.

The 2016 Blackpool World Firework Championships get under way on 9th September with the first of three competing teams taking it to the skies over the Irish Sea.

First competed for in 1999, the competition continues to grow in size along with the support it receives from the general public, it has certainly positioned itself as one of the best FREE display events in the UK today.

The firework displays take part each Friday from 9th in competition format and the finale will be UK-based company Titanium Fireworks who will entertain the crowds whilst the winners are announced.

New for this year, there will be a 3D show projected onto the front of the famous Tower building. The event also takes place during the town’s busiest time – BLACKPOOL ILLUMINATIONS so you have two reasons to pop over and enjoy the free family fun and entertainment on offer.

If you do have smaller children, why not make a weekend of it and take them along to the Wild West Diner where they can eat ‘cowboy and western themed’ style and the menu (including breakfast items like pancakes and eggs all day) will have something to suit even the fussiest of eaters. Alternatively, there are some family themed bars/restaurants along the sea front facing the fireworks.

Of course, the entertainment includes the usual amusements etc but you could also visit the sea-life centre or the zoo.
