COST: FREE. VIP SEATS ARE AVAILABLE FOR AN EXTRA FEE

First competed for in 1990, this year marks the 26th running of the event which pits the abilities of three of the top pyrotechnic teams from around the World. The organisers though do try to ensure that each year, at least one of the teams will be not have competed before adding that ‘unknown’ quality to proceedings.

The teams will be creating a 25 minute display, set and synchronised to music and will be judged by industry experts who will be marking against the following criteria:

SHOW SIZE – 10 POINTS
DESIGN AND ARTISTRY – 30 POINTS
SYNCHRONICITY – 20 POINTS

Competitors will lose points for flouting safety rules, any activities considered unprofessional and dangerous set up practices. The judges said ‘some teams are extremely flowing and magical whereas others are bombastic which is what makes role even more difficult’.

Saturday 23rd July 2016 – Royal Fireworks – Netherlands

Wednesday 27th July 2016 – Howard & Sons – Australia

Saturday 30th July 2016 – The Walt Disney Company – USA

The competition forms part of ‘Shorefest’ which is Vancouver’s largest community concert series. The event brings a staggering $37 million into the economy in tourism and hospitality alone.

On event days, there will be live music from 2pm daily and food and entertainment available to everyone. You can either watch the fireworks from the beach and surrounding area or one of the specialist areas set up.

The Keg Lounge, is closest to the music stage, a Steak House Bar and Grill which is the most popular area for VIP’s .

Sunset Beach will have fewer people about than the Beach at English Bay and you will be able to see just as well without tripping over people.

The winner of the competition will be announced on 31st July once all three teams have competed.

Social media reporting has of course gone wild since learning that the team from The Walt Disney Company were taking part. Of course, whilst Howard & Sons have previously competed here, the Netherlands and of course the Disney team have not so it should be quite something to behold. Royal Party, representing The Netherlands, were winners of the Philippine International Pyromusical Competition in 2015 so they are all in with a fighting chance.

We will of course bring you the latest news as it happens from the showground and will of course announce the winner at the beginning of August.

Disneyland Celebrates Its Diamond Anniversary With Fun and Fireworks

WHAT: Disneyland Diamond Anniversary
WHEN: Friday 17th July 2015
FIREWORKS: You betcha 🙂

2015 marks 60 years of the vision of one man, Walt Disney’s creation, Disneyland in Anaheim, California and of course, this year will be packed to the rafters with events including the ‘Diamond’ theme.

The big ‘Summer Event’ will be on 17th July 2015 at the park. All the plans are falling into place as the Castle is currently hidden from view whilst a huge transformation takes place.  Cinderella’s Castle will be adorned with Diamonds in accordance with the Anniversary celebrations.

They are also making several references in the press about an ‘upgraded’ fireworks show which, alongside the now ‘paint the night parade’ will refer to the 1.5 million LED lights featured in the new look parade and lights on some of the characters outfits.

Disneyland evokes everything that childhood should be about:  Wonderment and love, just as the late Walt Disney envisaged all those years ago when he dreamed of a magical park filled with laughter and harking back to simpler times when you could walk the streets and leave your doors open.  This was the main rationale behind the ‘Main Street’ which offers visitors the chance to visually imagine what the US was like in Victorian times.

We have previously highlighted the ‘Dreams Come True Fireworks and Parade’ which offers spectators the chance to see fireworks most nights during the Summer but only a couple of times a week at this time of year.  The fireworks are absolutely beautiful and they use around 1000 pieces per show from smaller fountains to HUGE shells, many of which have been created to thrill and delight children and parents alike and the chief firer and his 7 technicians ensure that things always go to plan so we expect nothing less.

We will bring you all the news in the Summertime for the anniversary event and in the meantime, if you hear of anything of interest in the world of pyrotechnics, let us know.

Walt Disney Pictures Fireworks Intro

Every child in the western world and in some less developed know the introduction for Disney Pictures. The ident is powerful and set in our hearts and minds from childhood as an indicator of a great piece of cinema history to come.

As some may have been fortunate enough to experience first hand, Disney has fireworks every day of the year. The only exception is down to the weather conditions and more importantly the wind direction and strength, as usually advised by fire officers in an attempt to not start fires inadvertently in adjoining areas.

Fireworks at Disney, however, are one of the main features of the parade but given that they display daily, and being environmentally conscious, they use a vastly more expensive perchlorate-free mixture in their firework composition which includes nitrogen-rich oxidizers.

In 2004 in further attempts to reduce their carbon footprint, they also changed from black powder to using compressed air to launch the fireworks which again reduced the number of airborne chemicals.

In whatever format, long may we continue to love the fireworks and of course, Disney.
