SOUTHPORT BRITISH MUSICAL FIREWORK CHAMPIONSHIPS – IT’S HERE!

The 2018 British Musical Firework Championships, one of the most fiercely contested competitions in the UK Firework display calendar starts this Friday in the beautiful West coast town of Southport.

Each team invited to compete are tasked with producing the most beautiful display lasting around 16-18 minutes and fully choregraphed to a pre-approved track list. The displays will be judged by a panel from the firework and entertainment industry on the following:

Artistic Merit:
Synchronisation to Music 15
Mood and flow (continuity) 15

Variety of Music and Effects:
Firework Symmetry – colour, pattern and effects 15
Choice and use of music 15

Technical Merit:
Technical synchronisation 10
Site Safety management 10
Overall display timing 5

Overall Performance:
Design, choreography and entertainment value 15
(taking weather conditions into account)

The little Town of Southport has a huge amount of charm and the back streets are packed with little eateries (having eaten at half a dozen, I have never been disappointed).

As we face some of the hottest weather the UK has seen in many years, thoughts of Autumn and cool evenings fill the mind as this also herald’s Southport’s fabulous firework championships.

The British Musical Firework Championships is one of the most fiercely competed for in the UK event calendar as it brings together some of the finest exponents of the art of pyrotechnics to battle it out in the sky over this stunning seaside town.

There will be over 10 tonnes of pyrotechnics which will be linked by a staggering 5km of cabling and will take teams of up to 15 technicians to set up the displays.

Each team will produce a 16-18 minute display, choregraphed to a pre-approved list of music and will be judged by a specialist panel from within the fireworks and entertainment industry.
There will be concessions on site, but you are very welcome to take along your own food and beverages.

Out and about there are numerous really good quality little eateries:

SAMSARA THAI – This is a busy, but efficiently run, establishment serving everything from dishes powerfully spiced with chilli to mild yet fragrant tasty dishes. Make sure you book to be sure of getting a table.

BISTRO 21 – Just off Lord Street, the main road through Southport. With an excellent choice of tasting, A-la-carte or Table D’hote menus the food is freshly prepared and choices range from fish to steak and Thai to Moroccan.

BISTRO VERITE – this lovely little French-inspired bistro has a reasonably priced menu with food of a standard which would compete with any top end restaurant.

CHESHIRE LINES INN – cheap eats of the very best quality. Their speciality is a fish platter with HUGE chunky homemade chips that are simply gorgeous.

WHY: NATIONAL FIREWORK DISPLAY COMPETITION

WHEN: 28th – 30th SEPTEMBER 2018 (THREE NIGHT EVENT)

We are delighted to inform you of the teams competing in the 2018 British Musical Firework Championships in Southport.

This year includes the following teams choreographing the fireworks to their own music selection. Some of the teams have competed before at the British Musical Fireworks Championships and
others at similar competition events both here in the UK and overseas.

All the competing teams must have a minimum of £5 million in Public Liability Insurance (most of them have a massive amount more) and their list of music must be submitted by 1 st June and be
suitable for a family audience.

Competitors can use between 4 and 10 pieces of music and they must have the details of the artiste, composer, genre etc and the final display should be of 16-18 minutes in length (outside of these timings, competing teams will be penalised).

The official judges are not ‘wet behind the ears’ so nothing gets past them and as mentioned in the previous blog, there are few better experienced that these having been in the industry for 30 years plus.
