The 2016 Blackpool World Firework Championships get under way on 9th September with the first of three competing teams taking it to the skies over the Irish Sea.

First competed for in 1999, the competition continues to grow in size along with the support it receives from the general public, it has certainly positioned itself as one of the best FREE display events in the UK today.

The firework displays take part each Friday from 9th in competition format and the finale will be UK-based company Titanium Fireworks who will entertain the crowds whilst the winners are announced.

New for this year, there will be a 3D show projected onto the front of the famous Tower building. The event also takes place during the town’s busiest time – BLACKPOOL ILLUMINATIONS so you have two reasons to pop over and enjoy the free family fun and entertainment on offer.

If you do have smaller children, why not make a weekend of it and take them along to the Wild West Diner where they can eat ‘cowboy and western themed’ style and the menu (including breakfast items like pancakes and eggs all day) will have something to suit even the fussiest of eaters. Alternatively, there are some family themed bars/restaurants along the sea front facing the fireworks.

Of course, the entertainment includes the usual amusements etc but you could also visit the sea-life centre or the zoo.

Friday 30th September – Celebration display by Titanium Fireworks and winner announcement

Once all three teams have shown their wares, the finale will take place on September 30th when Titanium Fireworks take to the skies whilst the winner is announced.

Blackpool World Firework Championships

This Friday sees the skies over Blackpool once again lit by stunning pyrotechnics as the second round of this three round decider gets underway.

Feerie Fireworks of France are no strangers to the International pyro stage as last year they competed at Pyronale in Berlin and are previous winners of the Cannes International Festival of Pyrotechnic Art’s beautiful Golden Vestale.

As a child, Joel, the owner of Feerie lived close to the Ruggieri Factory in Paris and the years passed but his connection to the pyrotechnics never left him. As he reached his mid forties, he left the security of his role in industrial robotics and automated machine sales to pursue his need to vent his artistic side. From this point, Feerie was born and his knowledge and flair were passed onto his son and daughter who both joined the family firm and they have never looked back.

It’s all free entertainment for all the family and the chance to watch one of the World’s best display specialists painting the skies over the West Coast.

The event starts at 7.30pm and they are expecting to fire from 8.00pm but there is plenty to do and see along the Promenade at Blackpool to keep the children occupied while you wait and local Radio Station ROCK FM will be there to entertain everyone during the build up.

We will once again bring you the low-down on the displays after the weekend but if you take any pictures or videos yourselves, please send them to us and we will get them on our FB page or feature them on the blog.

Have a great weekend and good luck to Feerie and we hope the weather holds off as we know it can be particularly punishing off the Irish Sea.

World Firework Championships Blackpool 2015 – Day 1

Last night saw the first display of the World Firework Championship events in Blackpool fill the skies over the Irish Sea with colour and effects.

The event pits the skills of pyro-technicians from across the World in this fantastic winner takes all spectacular.

Kicking off with the team representing China from Tanghua Fireworks, the home of pyrotechnics, we were expecting the best they had to offer.

Whilst they awaited the start of the show, there was entertainment from local radio station Rock FM in calm weather and a gentle rolling sea – and anyone who has visited the World Firework Championships in Blackpool before will attest to, this is not always the case!

Each Friday over three weeks, the region will be treated to some awesome pyrotechnics from China, France and Canada before the finale evening when Titanium Fireworks put on a great show before they announce the 2015 winner.

The display from China was very pretty with some beautiful falling leaves and horsetails in rich golds and bright and luscious reds. The slices were lovely and there was a nice shell which went from glitter palm to crossette which was a great effect.

Midway through the display, there were some beautiful gold brocade bursts with blue tips and a brocade with a red glittering centre, which were awesome. Brilliant thick tailed spinners, lovely huge shell bursts with some beautiful fans to finish – a worthy effort.
