Working in partnership with Newcastle Gateshead Initiative and E1 Ltd (the improvement district company), the council has announced the return of the traditional fireworks display for 2018. All night owls are welcome to join in the celebrations and welcome in the new year with the beautiful Tyne Bridges as a backdrop to the fabulous colourful fireworks display delivered by Allan Hillary events and Reaction fireworks.

Alongside this (and replacing the parade through Newcastle City centre) is the family event ‘East of the Sun, West of the Moon’ is from 4-6pm. With inspiration coming from a combination of Norse mythology and local folklore, the exhibition park and town moor will be completely transformed.

Through the thickets of thorny brambles, you will be able to spot the different shapes and sizes of some unusual painted animals peeking through the undergrowth as the bonfire beastly lair grows and grows forming the centrepiece for the evening’s theatrical performances before finishing with a fantastic fireworks finale at 6pm.

This family-friendly early evening event features a range of fun and entertainment including the fabulous Heart Radio a funfair and plenty of food and drinks concession stalls that keep everyone entertained until the main event. All the entertainment is tied in with the Great Exhibition of the North that is happening in 2018 with the event promising for an action-packed summer for everyone. Make sure that you book your spot and enjoy the full range of activities and entertainment on offer because although it is a free event, spaces are limited and as such tickets will be required.
