This year marks the 26th edition of the international competition which started in 1990.

The competition has brought some of the finest exponents of pyrotechnic art in Europe with invited companies from other parts of the world. This year, a team from China will be competing against the best of the best from Spain as they paint the skies over the Costa Dorada with colour, noise and effect.

Tarragona is located 60 miles south-west of Barcelona and is packed with Catalonian history and culture with stunning beaches and small, medieval and picturesque towns and villages.

Participants in this year’s festival are:

XARAIVA ALBARELLOS – MONTERREY – 29th June 2016

Established 1960 by the father of the current manager and this will be the third occasion that they have competed in this event.

PIROTECNIA VALECEA FO BERANTEVILLA – 30th June 2016

Established in 1876, the love of fireworks has passed from generation to generation ever since. This is the first time that this professional team will be taking part in the Tarragona Competition.

PIROTECNIA VALENCIA LLAERA DE RANES – 1st July 2016

Established in 1965, again by the father of the current manager, this company has a really busy order book and they have been responsible for the world-famous ‘Las Fallas’ in Valencia for the last 28 years.

FIREVISION INTERNATIONAL COMPANY LTD, HUNAN – 2ND July 2016

This team forms part of the huge Chinese buying group Dancing Fireworks who were responsible for the astonishing Beijing Olympics pyrotechnics during the opening and closing of the 2008 games.

The winners of the competition will go forward to fire the pyrotechnic display at the Festival De Santa Tecla.
