Penghu Ocean Fireworks Festival 2015

WHAT: PENGHU OCEAN FIREWORKS FESTIVAL 2015
WHY: FIREWORK FESTIVAL

WHEN: 20th APRIL 2015 – 19th JUNE 2015 (EVERY MONDAY & THURSDAY)

The Penghu Ocean Fireworks Festival is simply for the sheer enjoyment of fireworks, to welcome the Summer and of course, give a much-needed boost to tourism in the region.

Back in 2002, the region hit the international news headlines for all the wrong reasons as a scheduled flight crashed shortly after take-off resulting in the deaths of 225 people. Naturally, this had a massive impact on the area and Tourism dropped dramatically and whilst there was some improvement after the 2002 tragedy, last summer saw another plane crash into the river, taking the lives of another 48 people in the process and again, the islands are back at square one.

This year’s firework festival will take place twice weekly (every Monday and Thursday) from 20th April all the way through to 19th June 2015. The countries represented this year are:

PHILIPPINES
THAILAND
ISRAEL
CZECH REPUBLIC
CHINA

The islands are a honeymoon paradise so there is not much by the way of ‘entertainment’ but the food is exceptional, particularly the seafood. On display nights there will be local handicrafts and local musicians to provide the entertainment alongside a small number of concession stalls.
