F1 Fireworks

The last race of the season promises to bring fireworks of more than one kind.

As any fan of F1 will be aware, Lewis Hamilton is seventeen points ahead of his team-mate Nico Rosberg with 50 points going to the winner and 36 for second place, meaning if Lewis finishes the race in second he will still take his second world championship.

Just to make the final race of the year more interesting there are many permutations to take into consideration. If Nico finishes in second with Alonso winning the race which is a possibility, Lewis would only have to finish in the top 5 to take the title.

Daniel Ricciardo currently on 214 points is the nearest rival, but with a gap of 120 points, and starting from the pits after a front wing infringement in yesterday’s qualifying session, the Redbull team disqualified which means whatever the outcome the 2014 F1 World will be either Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg even if neither driver finishes the race.

With a tense race ahead entry into the first corner should be an interesting choice for Lewis. Will he Lewis play safe on the clean side of the track and follow Nico around waiting for a chance to pass, or in true Lewis style just treat the final race of the season as any other and go for the win?

Nico and Lewis are not new to racing each other as they have been rivals for a long time first meeting up at Kart races before they were teenagers.

Having met Lewis on a few occasions as a former kart racer and race marshal, I am hoping it will be Lewis that crosses the line first to trigger the launching of thousands of fireworks around the Yas Marina circuit making the race track one of only 2 in the world that celebrates with fireworks the other being Singapore.

Watch both of the displays here and decide which is best.
