Malta 13th International Fireworks Festival

The fireworks festival in Malta is quickly becoming one of the industries ‘must do’ events on the island and continues to grow year on year.

The fireworks festival is to mark the Islands accession to the European Union and nowadays attracts tens of thousands of visitors. This year marks the 10th anniversary of Malta joining the EU, making it extra special.

The international competition is synchronised to music and is judged on the synchronicity, timing, effects and colours.

Alongside the international competition, they are holding a national fireworks competition where the islands factories battle it out for a special trophy.

The Maltese are renowned for their love of fireworks, particularly as they form the foundation of all celebrations in the area whether they are religious or not. There are 35 firework factories on the Island and there are 70 villages spread over the area, all of which have Patron Saint celebrations which also traditionally include fireworks so barely a week passes without there being some sort of firework event.

Representing the UK at this year’s festival are the fantastic Pyrotex Fireworx from Derby. This team is no stranger to international and domestic competition having won the British Musical Fireworks Championships in 2010 and 2011 and the International Musical Fireworks Championships in 2012 in Monaco.
