Bradford Gets Bunting Busy

Jubilee fever has definitely hit the district of Bradford as preparations get underway for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.

With the efforts of such organisations as Schools and Community groups busy planning gala’s and fun-days, firework shows and picnics, there is likely to be something to suit everyone in celebration of the Queen’s 60 year reign as our sovereign.

Being Yorkshire folk, however, we are simply ready to start getting into the party mood straight away. The Lord Pamoyrs Parade on Saturday 19th May 2012 will kick off the Jubilee theme and in beautiful Haworth, they will be turning back time to the 1940’s with vintage bands and dancing in the Park. They will also feature a parade of veterans of the 2nd World War and some of the evacuees from the local area all dressed in appropriate period attire.

Saturday is set to be a day of dance across Saltaire when they will also incorporate the Jubilee theme with Rock and Roll and Swing-Jive workshops.

A fantastic choir of 75 children from ‘Stage 84’ in Idle sang earlier this month at Bradford Cathedral. The Jubilee Concert was to celebrate six decades of music including songs from The Beatles, Rod Stewart, Queen, Take That and Jessie J.

The local Muslim community was another group starting celebrations early when some of the members visited London last weekend to take part in a charity walk to raise money for good causes throughout the UK. The Ahmadiyya Community also plans on opening the mosque over the Jubilee weekend and flying the British Flag on Sunday 4th June 2012, when they will hold a special barbecue attended by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Dale Smith.

City Park will be the backdrop for ‘The Big Lunch’ on Saturday 2nd June 2012, where visitors will come along with their own food from 11.00am to enjoy a day of street theatre and live musicians.

Other local events include:

• Light Cliffe School – Fun-day on 3rd June

• Low Moor – Chapel House Pub will be holding a hog roast on 4th June and Harold Park will be holding a picnic including donkey rides and a bouncy castle

• Silsden Park – A concert featuring a number of different bands on 3rd June

• Wibsey – Pin the Crown on the Queen!!! and other events including egg and spoon races and sack races will be held on 2nd June at St Pauls Church

• Thornton – The Jubilee Beacon event on 2nd June – the beacon will be lit around 10.30pm

So, whether you want to join in with an organised event or have something of your own planned, why not let us know. We have magical fireworks which would be a great addition to any event and always at ½ the RRP.
