Valentines can include anything from romantic to quirky and funny to downright embarrassing but there are any number of things to do to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year.
From planning romantic walks by the sea (with the freezing winds and waves splashing around the other half’s Jimmy Choos along with the storm makeover after she has just spent over 3 hours getting ready for her ‘romantic night’ with you) to an evening of go-karting (not necessarily what she had in mind. . . again!!) these are not necessarily the best around but there are some true no-no’s this Valentine’s day and these are some of the worst:
• Petrol station flowers – ahhhh diesel scented chrysanthemums –NOOOO
• Tricky underwear – in the wrong size
• All you can eat buffet vouchers
• Bargain bin ‘love’ albums
• Tacky cheap costume jewellery
• Cuddly toys (if she is 10 years old – perhaps!!)
• Bars of chocolate – clearly an afterthought
• Cheap perfume
• Football match tickets – really!!
• A new iron or a kettle (only if you want it embedded in the side of your head)
The point is really that with a little bit of thought, you really can make this the most romantic day of the year.
Come on Yorkshire let’s make this the most romantic Valentine’s day possible. It’s not what it costs is the thought that counts but if you are going to do it on a budget try to give it some thought. It may not always be possible to afford to take your loved one out to dinner and whilst daunting, it is possible for ANYONE to create a delicious meal.
The best advice is not to try to go for something which is too taxing as the idea is to make it delicious but not too costly and easy to prepare in advance. There are some fabulous ‘one tray’ or ‘one pot’ recipes available online. A couple of tea-lights, a single rose and a bottle of wine and you are set. Make sure you rent a film, allow her time for a hot bath and then enjoy a meal together.
If you are looking for something a little different for your loved one, why not make it special with a Heart Rocket. At just £14.95 they are relatively inexpensive and the rocket’s heart burst will show your other half just how much you care.
Happy Valentine’s Day
Each year on February 14th countries across the World celebrate St Valentines day. Whilst this is restricted to countries which celebrate Christianity in some way, the trend is growing year on year.
The habit of exchanging gifts with loved ones is a practice which has been celebrated in one form or another since 270AD. Although a Christian festival, historians and religious scholars claim that the Church determined that the feast day of St Valentine should be mid-February at the same time as the pagan festival Lupercalia, a fertility festival dedicated the God of Agriculture, Faunus.
The oldest known valentine’s poem still in existence was penned in 1415 by Charles, Duke of Orleans to his wife whilst he was imprisoned in the Tower of London following the Battle of Agincourt.
In the UK, the popularity of Valentines Day grew in popularity in the 17th Century. By the mid 19th Century it was commonplace for friends and lovers of all classes to exchange love tokens or small written notes and by the start of the 20th Century, following the improvement in print technology, printed cards became increasingly available.
Nowadays, more than 1 Billion Valentines cards are sent annually and women buy around 85% of them.
Here at Epic we introduced the stunning Love Heart Rocket which ejects a beautiful burst in the shape of a huge Love Heart high in the sky. The perfect way to say I love you. It is difficult to find a product which appeals to the 10-year old boy in every man which fulfils their need to ‘make noise and blow stuff up’ but this one fits the bill perfectly and will let your partner know you love them whether you are a man or a woman.
Get along to us, we have a huge selection of fireworks, rockets and sparklers to meet the most discerning pyro lover and the Love Hear Rocket is just £14.95 inc VAT (RRP £29.95) and available now from our firework showroom in Tankersley. We look forward to seeing you soon.
Its almost here again, the day that the second largest sales of greetings cards takes place. St Valentine’s day is just around the corner and beggars the question, ‘say it with fireworks?’.
Recently, my partner and I were listening to a local radio broadcast when the female presenter highlighted her chagrin at having received a bunch of flowers. It was only apparent that her point was made because said flowers were purchased from the local petrol station. She went on to highlight that under NO circumstances were garage forecourt flowers an acceptable gift. So, this raised the idea of how would she feel receiving a rocket?
When tested, how many women would genuinely rather have a beautiful heart shaped rocket instead of the dried, diesel perfumed (and I do not refer to the designer label either) artificially coloured flowers. When put like that, who could disagree?
The heart shaped rocket is a snip at £14.95 and is one of this year’s biggest sellers and for very good reason. It is a truly beautiful piece and you simply cannot help but give it an ‘AWWW’.
So this year, lads – they really don’t want the rubbish flowers so don’t bother and ladies – no socks, boxers or smellies – come over to see us in Tankersley and give her a gift that she will never forget.
Open 7-days a week, 362 days a year, pop along. Just off junction 36 of the M1.
