This international competition has been a feature of the region since 1990. It has brought together some of the finest pyro-technicians from around the world to battle it out for supremacy in this competition.

The teams are chosen by the selector board from a number of applications received from across Europe. There is a massive list of criteria to meet in order to ensure that all teams are competing on a level playing field. The competitors are offered funding towards costs – competitors from within Spain are given €18,000 and outside the country €20,000. Not too shabby when you consider that first prize is a not inconsiderable €26,000.

The fireworks are a mixture of both aerial and aquatic and will last for no more than 18 minutes.

The companies firing are as follows:

Wednesday 1st July 2015 – Pirotecnia Zaragozana (Spain) – est. 1860 - Pyro to be fired: 482 kg

Thursday 2nd July 2015 - Pirotecnia Caballer Hermanos (Spain) – est. 1880 - Pyro to be fired: 878 kg

Friday 3rd July 2015 – Pyrotechnics Tomas of Benicarlo (Spain) – est. 1994 - Pyro to be fired: 1081 kg

Saturday 4th July 2015 – A.P.E. Parente Fireworks (Italy) – est. 1989 - Pyro to be fired: 898 kg

This event has been celebrated in the region since 1321 and continues to thrill the spectators as the fireworks are launched from the site over the promenade at the beach.

The Platja del Mirable beach overlooking the Mediterranean is one huge open air party for the event with gourmet food, fine wines and live music being played deep into the night.

Once the winner is selected by the team of 16 judges, the winner will receive the money, the Trophy and also the opportunity to fire the display at the Santa Tecla Festival.
